Insulated pouch and sunglasses pocket.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I use the cooler pouch many days. I have the camouflage material; it looks great. I use the side pockets to keep an unfinished drink. I have no complaints on construction so far. I use this pack every day, and I expect to use it for years. The sunglasses pocket is well-located, and I will use that, as well. The handle at the top of the pack is solid.

Great Backpack!

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I gave this pack as a "welcome back to school gift" and I'm pretty much a favorite forever. What a super roomy pack without being bulky and annoying. There is a ton of space and storage available: laptop, books, small items, and an insulated pocked for things for snacks. Also a side pocket on both sides for a coffee mug AND water bottle. That's amazing.

Packed

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Love this pack. I can fit everything I need for a day out working and running around. My computer is kept safe and it’s easy to find everything I need. Love the food cooler. Also I have been really impressed with the comfort of the last couple Dakine packs I have had. The straps are comfy and don’t dig in and the bag feels light, even when I overfill it.

Great backpack just got a defective one

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This is our 3rd Dakine backpack . The other 2 are still in great shape no issues. I ordered this backpack for my 7 year old for school this year, and it only held up for about 2 months if that. A tear/hole happened below at water bottle pocket both sides. Kids backpacks are hung up on hooks at school so i thought for this to tear within 2 months of school has to be a defective with the fabric . I contacted Dakine and they responded: " Thank you for submitting a warranty claim. Our warranty covers manufacturing defects within the normal scope of use, which would include examples like straight edge tears along the seam, zipper failure, or a stitching defect. Your product's damage was caused by wear and tear which is not covered." Not great customer support on Dakines end, especially since they say "lifetime warranty"

Solid Everyday Bag

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This backpack is great for everyday use. I take it to school, even up into the mountains on short day hikes. It has plenty of storage and deep bottle pockets. Great assortment of colors is nice. Haven't had any problems with the zippers and so far so good.

Everyday Bag

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've been using this bag almost every day for the last 12 years and I finally bought my second one only because the black color was so faded from the sun and the staps were just barely starting to fail. I love the cooler and sunglasses specific pockets and overall the pockets are just so well laid out. I've used it for everything from school (carrying 30+ lbs of textbooks) to bike commuting and hiking to a general pack for work. The handle on top is also bombproof and is a huge plus for me because I like to pick up my bag from the top. This is my favorite piece of gear that I own!

Huge backpack with a ton of space.

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The 33L version of this backpack is ideal for when you have a lot stuff to carry to school. The YKK zippers make it feel very durable. I like the sunglasses pocket and the insulated cooler in the front compartment that it's great for some snacks. I bought in balsam and I might say that the color looks more greener in real life, yet I prefer it that way.

Great backpack, wrong image on website

I was so stoked to receive this bag for a project I was working on. I opened the package and it was the right bag, but no where near the same color as shown on the site. It was a camo combo versus the bright tamarindo. The chat service did help me out with refunding shipping and a credit towards a future purchase. I just really wanted the original color i ordered. I guess in today's world that is as good as it gets. Sad face.

Website is still showing the wrong image for the product. Maybe they should get on that...

Hey Timothy, I'm sorry we had the wrong photo at the time of purchase! We do our best to make sure all products have the correct photo, but with over 20,00 products on the site, we do miss a couple!

Awesome Dakine Backpacks

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

We absolutely love Dakine backpacks. My oldest son used his Dakine for 6 years before he wanted a change even though the backpack still looks good. My daughter has one and I know it will last for many years. So when my youngest son wanted a new backpack, I said I would only buy a Dakine. We bought 2 for him. They hold up to daily usage and look great. This was the first time we ordered anything from Backcountry and we were very happy with their prices and fast shipping.

Great Backpack for Commute

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I use this backpack on my bicycle commute. It is large, which is perfect because it can fit my lunchbox, raincoat, rain pants and bike helmet. Thus far it seems to be holding up really well!

Love it!

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Comfortable backpack and good size for just about every activity. I love that the water bottle holders are deep (Only setback is that you cannot grab your water bottle without taking off the backpack). Insulated pocket is pretty small, but would work for 2 or 3 flat snacks like meat sticks or cliff bars. Soft sunglasses pocket on the top is clever. Straps around shoulders were comfortable to hike with and the across-the-chest strap is adjustable (which is super cool). I would recommend this pack!!

Great backpack

Familiarity:

It was bigger than I expected but that's a good thing. Not only is it perfect for carrying your laptop, it's also good for packing a few clothes of really whatever you want. Definitely recommended.

A Boob strap? Really?

Familiarity:

I got this backpack as a gift for going back to college. I am a full grown woman, and had to rip that part off of the backpack before I could wear it on public.

Great Backpack!

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I purchased this for my dad, and he loves it. He wrote "I love the backpack I purchased. The deep pocket at the rear has plenty of room for my laptop, keyboard, mouse and notebook. I love the front pockets as they do not go too deep. So if I am putting my wallet, keys, cell phone, or glasses they are easy to get at when I unzip the pocket."

Awesome

I've got no complaints on this. It's incredibly comfortable and the chest strap secures down well. The cooler pouch is awesome and the glasses pouch is real convenient

Loving it.

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I used this backpack as a diaper bag/carry-on. It was perfect for what I was looking for. It is BIG for a day pack. The bag can fit a lot of stuff in it. I put bottles in the front cooler pocket, and the milk stayed cold for up to 6 hours (I didn't try longer than that). The materials are really high-quality and I think this bag will last me years. I'm a big fan.

For the side pockets for water bottles I have a decently tall 40oz water bottle which is about 10.5 inches tall almost 11 inches. Is the side pockets tall enough so it doesn’t fall out? because with the backpack I have now have mesh pockets but it’s not tall enough so it falls out easy.

What do you mean "one size" when I am picking the item that I want? It still is the large backpack, correct? This is because on another website that I was on they offered the backpack in one size and then in a 26 liter or a 33 liter.

Hey Lesley, The One Size is only referring to the torso measurement- in some packs it will offer a couple of different sizes. This pack is just one standard torso length, and all colors will offer the same 2000 cu in of volume!

How much will the cooler pocket hold? And does it have a chest strap?

Tracey, The insulated "cooler" pocket is the smaller horseshoe shaped one at the front of the pack in the product image. As you can see, it is not huge and I would only recommend a single drink can, or a couple of Capri-Suns. Yes, The Dakine Campus Large Backpack comes with a chest strap.

My son is a rising 6th grader and his school requests drawstring bags rather than backpacks because the pack needs to fit inside the school desk during classes. Drawstring bags stink! What are the dimensions of this pack? Would it be a good alternative? Thanks.

The dimensions of the bag are 20" H x 13" W x 9" D. Would it be a good alternative? I wouldn't be able to say with out knowing the size of the desk sorry.

Probally would NOT fit.

Bob, nope, not waterproof but you could always add a rain cover over it. Most packs are not waterproof until you get into some high end models.
