Heading out for a training ride involves a heavily motor-memory driven routine of straightening socks, matching bib cuffs to tan line levels, checking tires, and a host of other essential tasks as we check off out pre-ride preparedness list. Where safety stands on that list should be ideally first and last, and the Cycliq Fly6 CE3 Tail Light can help. The first is charging your rearview camera/rear light combo, and the last is turning it on as you head out the door. Updated from the previous model, the new Fly6 is sleeker, more durable, includes a twist on/off mount, and now comes with a 32GB microSD card.
If you aren’t familiar with the Fly6, it’s a combination rear light and video camera that records up to 5 hours of video in glorious FHD (1080p at 30fps) or HD (720p at 60fps) to capture an epic ride or, in truth, an unfortunate rear-end accident. Capturing sound and locking audio and video on either side of an incident — yes, the Fly6 can register if it’s been in an accident — it’s one of the more valuable upgrades you can make to a bike. And should you run out the memory card, a smart loop feature erases older video, so you’ll always have relevant safety-related video recording space.
The bulb pumps out a respectable 50 lumens at maximum brightness and has a variety of modes. Run time for the bulb is 4 hours with the camera recording. Yet, if the battery runs low, the Fly6 prioritizes a HomeSafe mode to keep the minimum lights on to get you home. Installing is easy with a twist lock, and charging is two-hours with USB-C. The accompanying app includes more detailed information, and you can even edit exciting video clips from your race or ride.

Definitely NOT weather resistant
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
The advert says "Weather resistant for any kinda of fun," but in my experience this is far from the truth. I have now had two separate Fly3 Gen 3 lights fail completely after using them in mildly wet conditions (the most recent following a storm with only spray from wet roads). It is clearly a big issue when normal use can allow water to penetrate into the device itself (see the moisture inside the lens of the light in the attached photo). This is very disappointing as I have used prior models of the Fly3 without issue (and my Fly12 has experienced no issues despite having been on my bike during the rides that did in my Fly3s). I hope Cycliq addresses this issue in their next model of the Fly6, as this is otherwise a great product.

Fool me twice - shame on me
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I had the prior Fly6 CE and it failed in a rain shower after a year. I bought the new Fly6 Gen 3 and had it for 3 weeks. It failed in a light shower. I followed the exact directions of Cycliq to notify them and request a solution. Nothing. No response although their website says they will respond in 2 days. I am extremely disappointed. I had waited for 5 months from my order date to receive the new Gen 3. Then it worked for 3 weeks!
