Be a pro at staying cool.

There are days when you can't decide whether or not to wear a base layer and you waste time with a debate you can't answer. Craft's Cool Mesh Superlight Sleeveless Base Layer answers the question for you. Wear it.

This is as minimal as a base layer can be. The top is made of Craft's C017 lightweight mesh fabric. Big holes woven with a hexachannel fiber gives plenty of opportunity for cooling with just a smidge of insulation. The material is also sufficiently elastic that you wear this for the advantages of a body-hugging fit without ever feeling encased.

Even though it's sleeveless, this base layer has gotten the same attention from Craft's ergonomic experts. The paneling wraps around you, with generous arm holes and seams that wrap around you.

The Craft Cool Mesh Superlight Base Layer comes in three colors and is available in sizes from X-Small to XX-Large.

    • Sleeveless baselayer for warm-weather riding
    • Hexachannel fibers maximize airflow
    • Lightweight fabric provides slight core insulation
    • Spacious armholes for freedom of motion
    • Ergonomic paneling matches natural movement

    Cool mesh really works!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 180lbs

I have to say I was skeptical when buying this base layer. I wanted something that would keep me cool in the hot months, and having tried a version made by Castelli, and not getting much cooling, I really wasn't sure it would work. My baseline for "cool" is a lightweight summer jersey with no base layer. On my first ride it was 95 degrees and I felt slightly warmer than w/o the base at the beginning, and during the ride I couldn't tell if I was cooler. However, on my way home in the car, I could suddenly feel cool air blowing up my back from the vented car seats. I had never felt that before with any of my jerseys and I had a thought, I wonder if the cooling works better when the Cool Mesh is damp, as it would get during a ride. On my next ride I wet the Cool Mesh, rung it out and put it on and light jersey over it. Ho-ly crap! It was like the AC was suddenly turned as low as it would go!! This really works! Since then this is how I use it for every HOT weather ride and it definitely feels cooler.

The fit is a little big. Normally I wear a large t-shirt, I got a medium in this base layer and it fits well.

Get one, you will not regret it!

    Loose

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

You want your base layer to fit snugly but not constricting for it to wick sweat away from your body. This one was loose. I’m 5’6”, 155 lbs. i normally use medium for base layers and race fit Jerseys. The small would be too tight for me based on size chart.

    Excellent Sweat Wicking

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 175lbs

This piece is nicely lightweight and wicks sweat extremely well. I tend to sweat a good bit when layered up in winter but this piece when paired just with a softshell jacket is excellent and I found myself definitely drier. I'm thinking about picking up more to wear under my shirts everyday at the office.

Fit is American, similar to many Pearl Izumi or Louis Garneau pieces. It's not a compressive fit like some baselayers but not loose and flappy either. It's is on the long side, perfect for taller folks.

    Feels good

This my first summer under shirt so IDK what parts of my opinion are about this garment verses any warm weather undershirt. That said I really like this. I took a 14 day ride across the UK (LEJOG) this summer and washed this out each night in the hotel shower. It held up great, no odors, easy to dry. The open waffle knit keeps you cool .

Light & comfy - review on sizing only

My chest size is 42 and I am 5'7. I've read many reviews where a significant number of reviewers stated to size down - I agree. According to Craft's sizing chart a 42 chest requires a large, however, I purchased a medium and it fits nicely. So, be sure to take an accurate measurement of your chest area and if you are on the fence, step down a size. Fortunately, the base layer doesn't hang on me like a dress either, which I had concerns based on a few reviews.

Note: I only gave 4 stars because I won't be able to truly test the garment until next season, however, there are many positive reviews that confirms that it gets the job done. I could not pass on the sale since these have received such great reviews.

      Light and Comfy

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Small
      • Height: 5'9"
      • Weight: 153lbs

Craft makes some great baselayers and this one is no exception. It does seem to help you stay warm when its cold and breathes well when its hot. Haven't been able to take it out in the extreme heat, but a breeze helps cool you down when you're heating up. It is extremely lightweight and you can barely tell you are wearing it. Craft runs pretty big. At 5ft9 153lbs, the Small is just about right, a tad on the big side. It will stretch a little bit after a few wears. Highly recommend this baselayer as you can wear it all year round so pick one up

      Breezy

It hasn't reached summer temps in Utah yet, but I can already tell this will be a go-to layer for my active pursuits when it does. The mesh is incredibly breathable and can be worn as a standalone if you don't might the see-through aspect. I've worn it both for running as well as at the gym and it performs excellently. I will update this review as soon as I use it in a multi-layer system.

      My first "real" baselayer

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'9"
      • Weight: 155lbs

I carefully researched baselayers before buying one. Most reviewers of other products compared those to the Craft...and generally unfavorably. Can't speak to other brands but this one comes as advertised. I wear it 4 times a week with a quick hand wash after each ride. Fairly true to size. I'm 5'9", 155 lbs., and the medium fits nicely. It has loosened a bit and wondering now if I may have been better off with a small. No regrets, though.

      Sizing... runs a bit big

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: Large
      • Height: 6'0"
      • Weight: 180lbs

About Me: 6'0" 180lbs (Athletic Build probably around 10% BF)
      Chest 40"
      Waist 32"

I normally buy Large in most upper body gear, especially if its a baselayer thats supposed to be somewhat form fitting. But this was just to big for me, fit me like a cotton t-shirt you find in the bargain bin at walmart.

It was big everywhere, across the chest and across the waist. About the material, its very light and breathable, also a bit see through as well. Perfect for gym work, indoor rides or undervest in warmer climates... construction is great as well... it just don't fit.

      Fabulous base layer

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: large
      • Height: 6'0"
      • Weight: 170lbs

I now have 2 of these. The fit is great. Being a light weight fabric it molds to the body. I find this extremely comfortable on cool days as well as hot days. I now wear this on every ride.

Good to know as I am looking for a summer base layer. I used a base layer for the first time during a recent century ride and I felt fresh, if you will. I sweat a ton and when I wear only a jersey, I am soak and wet, but when I wore the base layer (not the best one either), it took the brunt of the sweat. I'm convinced now.

      Swedish delight!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: XL
      • Height: 6'4"
      • Weight: 215lbs

I just took this base layer out its first century this weekend. It was only 75 degrees, so the cooling effect wasn't so much a factor. However, the sweat dispersion was remarkable. It kept me more arid than normal by pulling the sweat to the surface for greater evaporative drying. No chaffing.

      I love Craft

I have many Craft base layer shirts of different weights for winter use. I bought one of these and like it so much I bought a second one. it is very light weight and extremely comfortable on a warm to hot day, especially under a light weight jersey (Craft, of course.)

      Great Base Layer for Cycling

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Small

I may just purchase another one of these. Fits true to size. And it keeps me cool. I'm really happy with this purchase!

Love the Craft COOL Mesh Superlight

      • Fit: True to size

I love the Craft COOL Mesh Suplight base layer. I bought the sleeveless version and now want a few short sleeve ones, too. It is super lightweight...I tend to forget it's on, but it does a great job keeping me cool on hot days and warmer on cold days. Buy it sized for a snug fit. This one is a keeper!

Look no Further in your search . . .

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

Having bought Giordana for years, I was totally disappointed with the change to their product; after retuning it in dispair, I got a Castelli Seamless, but when I tried it on, I felt like I was in a heavy fishing net. Before giving up, though, I tried one last time with this Craft. Only thinking of Craft with my winter togs, I never dreamed that the company was a 5* in cycling apparel as well. Unlike other baselayers, this one gives you plenty of room to breathe -- so light-weight, in fact, that you barely know you have it on!

      Pretty awesome product

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

Although I am fairly new to base layer use during the summer months, I have to say that the other raving reviews are right on. This stuff is amazing. Does a great job at keeping you cool in hot weather and slightly insulated on cooler morning runs. I'm short, it does an amazing job at regulating you core temp on rides. Like the other review stated, I can only concur, once you go craft, you never go back.

      Buy one

      • Fit: True to size

I've been waring a Pearl one for about two years and realize now I need another. Bought this one and am very happy. Amazing how much it helps to regulate body temp while riding.
