    Come rain or shine.

Thunderstorms in the forecast? No worries—just put on the Columbia Watertight II Jacket and you'll be right as rain. The Omni-Tech waterproof/breathable nylon shell is fully seam sealed, so not only does it keep moisture out, but its air-permeable design allows unwanted perspiration to escape. When it starts to drizzle, just pull on the adjustable storm hood with abrasion-resistant chin guard. And no worries about getting the right fit—this jacket comes with an adjustable drawcord hem, so you're good to go. You can also use the zippered hand pockets to keep you hands warm, or to pack your jacket inside, once you return indoors to warm up by the fire.

    Gets the Job Done

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I took this to wear in Uganda which is right on the equator. We did not have a lot of rain but it would randomly rain torrentially throughout the trip. This jacket did a great job by keeping me dry and not making me too hot. I had very limited packing space to the fold into the pocket feature was also very beneficial.

    5 stars at $30; 4 stars at $50

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 145lbs

Let's be honest, if you can get this jacket cheap like I did, it's a steal. If you have to pay full price, or even $50+.....meh.

Don't get me wrong, it's a solid performer: Fully taped seams, adjustable hood/cuffs/waist, and it's packable. However, it lacks the pit vents that are so desperately needed during those the springs/fall ascents. Even though the jacket is breathable, no amount of selective permeability can substitute direct ventilation.

As for water resistance, I have only been able to use this shell in snow and sleet conditions. Water does seem to bead off of the jacket with ease, so I don't foresee water repellency to be an issue.

Sizing is akin to most Columbia products: Slightly larger and longer than my other shells, but I welcome this as it allows me to add a couple layers for those colder days. I could still wear this jacket with just a tee underneath, but it would probably start to look more like a medium on me.

Price vs cost makes the watertight II an excellent entry level shell. Thus, it would make a great backup or short ascent tech layer, but I wouldn't rely on it as my primary shell.

    Better than the venture

I purchased this jacket "just to try" when it was time to replace my NF Venture rain jacket after finding they had significantly changed the design and cut. To my surprise it's 100x better than the NF and half the price. The cuffs have elastic which most rain jackets have done away with, very nice to not have to Velcro the sleeve every single time you take it on and off. The zipper is covered. And the interior has a mesh lining which wicks sweat. I wore this jacket over a cloth sweater in complete down pour for 6 hours while on vacation. Got back to the room and my sweater was completely dry when I took it off. If you are on the fence, I would absolutely suggest giving this jacket a try. You won't be disappointed.

True to size, correct color, haven't tried under the rain, but looks good value for money. Unfortunately missing velcro on the right sleeve.

    Well Made and Great Look

I gave this item as a gift so I only have feedback to provide, but this has been a hit. Well made jacket, nice great on, and the colors are wonderful. Overall this jacket is a bargain at the price and should work perfectly for him for years to come.

    Very Versatile!

I purchased the Columbia Watertight II Jacket for an upcoming August vacation to England and Scotland. The jacket was easy to pack in small pack or bag. On a few occasions the temperature dropped in the evening and the jacket kept me warm and comfortable while wearing a short-sleeve shirt. Towards the end of my trip the weather became inclement with occasional rain and drizzle. The jacket kept me dry and the hood feature was very handy in keeping my hair dry. This is a great jacket for the price it well worth the investment. Others have mentioned not liking the Velcro but the Velcro was not an issue for me.

    twice as good

I bought this a few years ago as a gift. Unfortunately that gift was stolen, but luckily it was stolen before Father's Day so I could re-gift it again. This jacket is awesome.

This is a basic waterproof jacket. The fit of this jacket is different then the Watertight I, check out Columbia's size chart for each of their fit classes. (google image search Columbia mens fit guide)

At first we went with the XL but he wanted this to fit more casual and to be able to layer under. We had to exchange for a XXL, he's a bit larger around the gut. 6' prob 250lbs ish. If he didn't want to layer the XL fit perfect

This jacket helped keeps him dry when it rains protects from the wind, it is breathable and is great to hike in.
The draw cord is a plus. Packing into its pocket was awesome.

    Nice Jacket-Great Price

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 135lbs

Jacket fit great. It does what it's supposed to do. One should make sure to wear a warm layer underneath because since this is more of a liner, it doesn't really keep you warm.

    Cool Rain Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Med
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 140lbs

The jacket is very warm and has been just great !! It has been a life saver the past couple of week .. Would seriously order the same jacket again if something happened to this jacket

    a good, cheaper rain jacket

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'5"
    • Weight: 190lbs

This product serves its purpose pretty well. The bottom velcro wears out fairly quickly though but the jacket as a whole wears down very little. Use this jacket in light to moderate rain and as part of layering for snow. I've been very satisfied with it for the amount I paid. It's kept me dry on the mountain as well as on my way to class.

It was nice, just not for me.

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 170lbs

Reviews said it fit long. I disagree, greatly. It ran very short for me. It was also a little thick for just a light jacket I was needing. I also wanted a slimmer fit for athletic purposes.

Might be a good casual jacket. I only returned because of fit, nothing to do with quality.

What is the difference between columbia...

What is the difference between columbia watertight and watertight 2 jackets (if any) other than the pockets?

    Amanda,

There are very few differences between the Columbia Watertight and Watertight II Jackets. Primarily it is simply the next model year with new colorways, however, there are some differences in the pocket arrangement in the new model and a slight difference in length (the original Watertight has a center back length of 30" while the Watertight II is 29").

Both jackets employ Columbia's Omni-Tech waterproof-breathable membrane, both have drawcord cinching on the hem, and both have an adjustable storm hood.

When ordering, keep in mind that this jacket does size fairly large and most people in their reviews recommend sizing down from their typical jacket size.

How much does this jacket weigh in large?...

How much does this jacket weigh in large? I am going backpacking and weight is a HUGE factor in my decision.

    Hello David,

I can't find the weight anywhere. Adam's link is for the older version. None of Columbia's three descriptions for the new Watertight II says how much it weighs, in any size:

    http://www.columbia.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-Columbia_US-Site/default/Search-Show?q=watertight+ii&Submit=Go

Probably best to look at other jackets if weight is the primary thing for you ~ ~
