Every other pant

Fit:
Runs small
Size Bought
38x32
Height
6` 3"
Weight
240 lbs

Every other pant I purchase is 38x32 and, cut aside, they are always fit within an acceptable range. When I read that the reviews that folks thought that these ran large, I figured I'd get something slightly loose - which was cool with me. Unfortunately, the inseam on these was 1.5" shorter than a couple other 32"s I checked against and the waist was a bit on the snug side but would probably stretch with a few wears. Returning, maybe exchanging. We'll see.

Roc Flex vs Roc II

Agree, Roc II is better made than the Roc Flex. For casual wear the Roc Flex is not a bad pant, hangs well. I bought the Rock Flex Color (trail) not a bad looking pant (Columbia needs a wider variety of colors jumping into Spring). As mentioned by some the pant does run a little large. I flip flop between a 40x32 and 38x32. With this pant 38x32 is loose. Heads-up there when size comparing.. length seems to be pretty true to other Columbia pants like the Roc II.

Will not hold up for extreme use!

Bought as a gift for my son. He said the pants run a little larger but they are comfortable. Also, these pants would not hold up in rough conditions but they would work for casual hikes and regular daily wear. He would buy them again!

I work as an engineering geologist so I need clothes that look good in an office setting but then have the durability for field work. On a project site I often am bending, kneeling and squating down. The stretch to the fabric helps but after about two weeks the crotch tore below the zipper. A crotch gusset would help in that department. If not for the durability issues these pants would get a higher rating. Time to go back to Mountain Hardwear or Duluth Trading Co. pants.

Great all around outdoors pant!

My Step dad loves wearing these when hes outside working around the house, while hiking, and casually. I sent him a pair for his birthday and he's already worn them multiple times. He loves how comfortable and versatile these pants are. They do run slightly on the large side.

Like Reviews State, They Run Large

Fit:
Runs large
Size Bought
34x32
Height
6` 0"
Weight
180 lbs

Like the reviews below stated, the pants do run large and I have to return mine for a smaller pair. With that being said, they seem to balance between being rugged and still looking nice with a lot of carrying options. The running large thing isn't an issue, that's just the chance you take when ordering offline. I'm 6', weigh 180 and my normal pants are 34x32. These were way too baggy at the ankle so I am going to order 34x30. If you're the same build as me I would recommend going with 34x30.

Good pants

Classic fit. Good features such as the zipper pockets and the snap button. The waist seems to run a little bit larger than what I'm used to a 32 being, but not a big deal.

A Columbia classic

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Wonderfully tough without sacrificing comfort. Count on wearing these puppies for years - and they just get better with age - until they finally deteriorate from use and wash. I prefer these over the ROCs, but only just, mainly because of the waist snap. The "cell phone" pocket on the leg is ideal - even for a smart phone - quick access without worrying about dropping anything. 5 out of 5 starbursts baby!

Nice Looking Pants

Familiarity:
I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
Fit:
True to size

I bought these as a Christmas gift for my dad and he loves them. He said he is a solid 34x30 and these fit him perfectly in the waist and inseam. My dad has had a number of these Ultimate Roc pants over the years and he clearly loves them as he keeps going back for more.

Great Pants

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Fit:
True to size

Picked up a pair in Alpine Tundra color. Love em so far. Sizing is nice, not too tight, not too baggy - good fit for stocky builds like me. I'm 5'10" 185, and the 34x30 is a perfect fit. The fabric isn't as thick as my Mountain Khakis, but the fit is better. Time will tell how they wear. I work out in rugged places alot (Geologist), and generally wear pants out quickly.

Great for hiking

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Fit:
True to size

Good Material, soft canvas not stiff as a board like some other brands and ample leg room for wearing thermals under. Great range of movement done several 5-7 mile hikes not a snag yet.

Fan of pants

If you've gotta wear pants, you might as well wear these. I tried these out in comparison with the standard Roc pants and ultimately chose the Ultimates over the standards. Not for any negative aspect of the Roc pants, but just that I felt the Ultimates were just more superior for what I was looking for in my pants. The water/dirt repellency is great, and the pants are oh so soft and pliable right out of the package. I appreciate the fit on these over the Roc pants and these are a little less baggy. The sizing seems to be just a little bit big. I'm 6'1" and 180lbs and usually go for a 33x32 if they've got them and I found the 32x32 to fit much better than the 34x32's I tried. I've been wearing the same pair of these since I got them a week ago and I find they work for all occasions. Stylish enough to wear to church and yet durable enough to fall down a mountain in. Also, on a side note, my wife says they make my butt look awesome.

Runs big

I have to agree with the other reviewer, these pants run a bit big in the waist. Dig the fact that it is UVA/UVB protective. Great quality pant. Very durable.

sizing

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

the Columbia ultimate roc pant is an excellent pant in casual style, color, material weight, and material softness. The only issue i have had with this pant is in the sizing, it tends to be 2 sizes to large in the waist, The length has always been true to size. The 5 pair that i have purchased through 2012 from different sources on the internet have all had the same issue with sizing. These pants have been perfect for someone like me ( a 55 year old cowboy) who always wore bluejeans but at times wants to look a little more dressed up.

Comfortable

I bought these pants to wear with a boy scout uniform, because there wasn't any way I was wearing actual scout pants. Very comfortable in the Georgia humidity, good looking, and lots of pockets.

>Rating: 3

Not as Good as ROC Pants

After having worn both the ROC and Ultimate ROC Pants, I prefer the ROC Pants. The ROC Pants have a roomier cut, two extra belt loops in the back that keep your belt from riding up and prefer the zippered security pocket up behind the open pocket for your hands. The zippered pocket for the Ultimate ROC pant is by your knee and anything you place in it bounces off your knee when you walk. If they made the ROC Pant with the water/dirt repellant it would be perfect.

fits the bill

With 6 pockets and made of cotton canvas treated for protection from UVA/UVB rays you just can't go wrong. I first ordered one in surplus green color, and then couldn't resist the temptation to order another in grill. Now I feel like I am more or less in business sports-pants-wise. At 61 I am not much of a sportsman, but do you need a justification to own a good thing?
