So great, I’m buying more!
I’m on a sailing vacation with my first pair of Sandy River shorts, and I’m inspired to search for and buy more pairs! I have the 5” inseam in red, size regular M, and I’m 5’5”, 130 pounds, 51 years old. They are so comfortable, lightweight, and versatile. No liner, so you can wear comfortably with underwear, swimwear, or even commando. I also like the just right II capris for greater sun protection, but these shorts are great and so cool!

Been buying these for years
I bought many pairs of these in the 5in seam over the course of several years and they have been perfect for casual summer days, hiking and kayaking/river rafting. I lost weight last year and needed to buy new ones and opted for the 3in; bought several last fall and again this summer. The material overall isn’t very stretchy and I wouldn’t say it’s soft but it is comfortable (with the lone exception of a black pair I bought last fall, completely different material so I returned) and very water resistant. In the past I’ve gotten black, grey, nocturnal, sea wave, serenity, lichen, a peachy coral color and bright aqua with no issues of them being see-thru (some colors, like the mango and hibiscus (surprisingly), unfortunately were so I returned and I can imagine the lighter peach and pink colors would be). If you want a more looser fit, go up a size but they’re pretty true to size and still offer plenty of mobility, and obviously if you want more coverage go with the 5in seam (I do think this length is where people tend to feel it pull across the thighs/hips so size up with this length). For reference I am 5’8” and (currently) about 135lbs and the small is perfect with plenty of mobility.

Size up
Not super comfy or stretchy. They are kind of an itchy fabric. If I were to purchase again, id size up.

Excellent with one flaw
This short would get 5 stars across the board except for one significant flaw: the netting used for the inside of the pocket shrinks! The netting is sewn to the material that makes up the outside of the short, so you end up with bunched pouches on each side where the pockets are. The shorts used to be made in Vietnam, and they don’t sew the pocket to the short (ie they hang like an athletic short), so even if the netting of the pocket shrinks, it doesn’t bunch the shorts at the pocket. The shorts are now made in Indonesia, and they’ve changed the style to where the pocket is sewn directly to the inside of the short - pocket shrinks, shorts bunch. They look really stupid. I think it probably takes five or six washes before this happens, but it will definitely happen if your shorts are from Indonesia. If you can get them from Vietnam, I have had no problem with those. Otherwise, these are seriously the best shorts I’ve ever had. I just have to keep buying new pairs whenever the pockets shrink, and they start looking stupid. Heads up Columbia. You really need to fix this problem and I have many many pairs of these shorts if you need any examples.

Comfort & coverage!
I bought these last Summer & although I’ve worn them multiple times, they still look new. They fit great & can be dressed up to go downtown or functional for outdoor activities.

Some colors are see through
The sea blue color is great. I also ordered the mango and was really excited for it however, the mango is see through.

Great fit, but deceiving color
I got the yellowish orange color of these shorts, and I love them! But faith warning, these specific shorts are a little more orangey that depicted in the picture — I thought they were going to be a bit more yellow. But I still love them!
