Why We Like Powder 8's Jacket

Two ski tracks wiggling down powdery mountains—crisscrossing each other to form 8's—is a work of art that can bring any skier to tears. It's just so beautiful, so peaceful, and so symmetric. Similarly, Columbia's Powder 8's Jacket serves us well as we brush down our own canvases for the folks on the chairlift to admire.

Light weight and warm!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The jacket is very warm and light weight. It's very comfortable for skiing. I skied under a snow storm and it worked right. Water and wind proof.

Excellent quality, warm, and tons of pockets

Took this jacket for night boarding in Southern California. Tons of pockets, and really like the sleeve lift pass pocket, making it convenient to scan my pass. The fit is active, so I guess that means fitted or slightly slim. Quality is great on this jacket. The front chest pocket zipper was a little bit hard to pull, but that's not a huge issue.

Completely wet after three hours of skiing in the snow

The clothes are warmer than i expected, but the waterproof is not good. After I three hours skiing on the slopes today, it was completely soaked. Visible discoloration due to wetting can be seen on the surface within an hour ski. In contrast, the other snow pants I bought did a great job of helping me keep the body dry. I don’t know why this will happen

Good quality and warm, questionable fit

It's a super comfortable jacket, soft, warm with lots of pockets. Much warmer than expected for the weight and thickness - easily handled sub 30F temperatures with high wind chill with just a thermal crew and hoodie underneath it. I like several of the features like the under-arm zips to cool off when needed and the thumb holes in the cuffs. My only issue with it is fit. I'm a dude with broad shoulders, so I got the XXL. It fits great on the shoulders, chest, arm width and arm length. Then it just blouses out around the waist and hips like it's meant to fit a pregnancy. There is no way to tighten the fit at the waist and the cinch at the bottom is not helpful since it is below the hip. The velcro tab on the hood doesn't go far back enough to shorten the hood depth, so it constantly falls over the eyes (I can fix this with some stick on velcro tabs since I'm used to vendors constantly helmet sizing hoods without enough of a cinch to make it fit a head without a helmet). Thankfully poor fit on the larger side doesn't affect the functionality of it, so I'm mostly happy with it.

Great Value

Jacket is very nice with many secure pockets, zippers, etc. I am 6ft about 150 pounds, thin and the medium fits me very nice without being too bulky. Would give 5 star rating, except the rip cord around the hood is lacking... there is no clear way to secure the rip cord to keep it tight after pulling it. The waist rip cord has the traditional plastic button type, however the hood does not. It loosens up standing still and while skiing a hood full of wind, it will definitely loosen up. Maybe someone else can describe how to keep this rip cord tight. Everything else about this jacket is amazing; will be a very good ski jacket outer layer for many seasons...despite my opinion of the hood, would still buy again and recommend.

Great jacket, ticks all the boxes, nice shell material, fit, stlye and features

This is a very nice jacket. I purchased several in Large and not only was the best fit (other ones too big), but it felt much better. It has all the features you need, including removable hood, shell material is superb (feels and looks premium), and the style is just perfect. I havent tried it in the slopes so we'll the waterproof material, but should get the job done for the price. Do not expect a high-end arcteryx, but if you are on a budget and still need a good branded jacket, this is Columbia best snow jacket to me.

Exactly what I needed

I bought this jacket for a family ski trip to Steamboat Colorado. I used this jacket in temps from the lower teens with blowing snow to mid thirties and sunny. I was never cold and most days it was partially unzipped. I researched other much more expensive brands but decided to go with this one. I am glad that I did, It performed well and handled everything thrown at it.
