Waterproof Doesn't Last

I bought this two months ago for my kindergartner. We've had heavy rain this fall in the PNW, and I was disappointed when my kiddo came out of school today with her jacket soaking wet. It doesn't do a great job repelling water for the time that my kindergartner is out at recess during the school day. Oddly enough the toddler version of this jacket for her younger sister has retained its waterproof ability from the last couple months, though is worn less often. I'm not sure if the kid's version has worn out or what. It's good in a pinch but definitely looking for alternatives that aren't too heavy and will keep the rain off all day.
