PNW Bugaboo 1986 Interchange Jacket

If you were to take a peep in your Dad's closet back in the mid 1980s, you'd probably see a plethora of neon colors, chunky hiking boots, and the Columbia Men's Bugaboo 1986 Interchange Jacket. Unlike your Dad, the Bugaboo doesn't look like it's aged a day, and boasts slightly updated technologies. Starting with its Omni-Tech exterior, the Bugaboo offers waterproof protection and breathable comfort, while the removable fleece liner assures dependable warmth on cool days. And since it's a 3-in-1 jacket, you're able to wear the shell or liner on its lonesome, or pair them together for toasty warmth on unpredictable autumn excursions. Additionally, the Bugaboo is fashioned with a bevvy of pockets that easily accommodate your snazzy, retro-inspired shades and smartphone. Now, all you need is a personal tape deck and some radical jogger pants, and you'll be well on your way to showing your old man a thing or two about vintage style.

The best jacket for the northwest

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this jacket to survive the winter in oregon and it served its purpose really well. Sometimes (most of the time) it's cold and rainy, sometimes it's rainy but not that cold. No matter the weather, this jacket has got you covered.

A worthy successor

I have just received my new ‘Bugaboo 1986 Interchange Jacket’ and it is wonderful! It has the same weight and feel as the 80’s Bugaboo that has been my mainstay jacket for over 30 years. And because I purchased the new jacket during a seasonal sale, it cost less than I paid for my original Bugaboo! There are some differences between the jackets that I would like to point out. My original Bugaboo has a collar with an integrated hood, two zippered breast pockets, ‘pouch pockets’ on the fleece liner and piping on the seams in contrasting colors - features not present on the new model. Of these, I will miss the pouch pockets the most as they are great for carrying a book, an iPad, a small package, gloves, etc. I can’t figure out why they were eliminated. The new jacket does have a more secure breast pocket on the left side of the coat, cleverly hidden behind the flap that covers the main zipper. Speaking of that cover, my original jacket has snaps to hold it in place. The snaps are difficult to use and the velcro closures on the new jacket are an improvement. I look forward to breaking in my new Bugaboo. My original Bugaboo is still in good shape - a testament to Columbia Sportswear quality - and will be hung on the ‘work outside in the yard’ coat hook.

Bugaboo...One of the very best jackets/coats made!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is such a well made jacket with so much flexibility in it's use being that the liner zips out. I don't care for all the coats these days having hoods. This coat doesn't. In 1986 when the Bugaboo was all the rage among skiers, it was because it was incredibly warm, waterproof and functional. Good luck finding anything made today with this level of quality. It's a classic for good reason. Kudos to Columbia for bringing it back!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I want to talk about the quality. I have an Original 1986. It is in great shape and still something I wear all the time. Skiing, Backpacking, Early Mornings at the Beach. This is and has always been a great product.

Bugaboo Layered Warmth

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the third Bugaboo coat that I own. I have a green, tan, and now this black. The green and black are embroidered for work. I appreciate this coat's layered warmth and flexibility. A great fit and function and appearance.

Proudly wearing Columbia Bugaboo still after 35 years!

Ordering online was easy, convenient, and i received wxactly what I ordered! I have always worn Columbia winter jackets since I was a child. This 1985 Bugaboo reminded me of the coat I had back in the 80's, and I was so happy to see this still available today. I just had to have one! It is slightly small, I wish I would have ordered next size up, but it still fits good enough to keep.

Fine

At 5'9" 170 with mostly slender build the medium with the attached inner jacket "just" barely fits. So jacket runs slightly small, without liner it is fine. I downed this jacket for the ridiculous BUGABOO stitched into the rear collar. Not sure why I thought it was just imposed on the picture. It truly ruins this jacket for me.

This jacket is exactly as described, retro look, Columbia value and lots of pockets. I bought it to replace a similar jacket by a different manufacture that finally wore out after many years. For me the medium was a perfect fit both fleece and jacket. I rarely wear the liner with the jacket, when I buy a 3-1, but it really adds to the value when you get two items at such an attractive price

'86 Bugaboo...reproduced

Certainly, it isn't as good as the original Bugaboo I bought in 1986 and used until 2015. However, it is a very good replacement. I am very disappointed in the color schemes though, too few and not very attractive. It would have been nice if they had a red shell and navy-blue liner like the one I bought in '86. I am very happy Columbia brought the original Bugaboo back!!

Not the same as the original '86 jacket!

I had the original jacket in '86. It didn't have a fleece liner. It had a down filled inner jacket that looked like a bubble jacket in one side and smooth on the other. That was a great jacket. This new jacket isn't!
