Ready for action.
When his pizza turns into French fries, the bunny slope gets ditched for black diamonds, and the music in headphones sounds more like robots than instruments, you know it’s time for Columbia’s Alpine Action II Jacket for Boys. Watching the boy in your life growing up to be a pre-teen is never easy, but with the extendable sleeve lengths featured in Columbia’s Outgrown Extend System, it will at least feel better in your bank account.
Growth spurt after growth spurt, winter after winter, the waterproof shell will keep your growing boy dry. Its breathable qualities help to ensure that he won’t get bogged down from sweat when he’s racing to get ahead of his friends and frozen on the chairlift ride back up to the top. Plus, a combination of reflective lining and 100g Microtemp XF II insulation work to keep him warmer for longer. The insulation stacks up heat around his torso and arms while the lining returns body heat back to where he needs it. With reliable winter protection out of the way, all you need to do is try to keep up with him. Good luck!

Great Durable Kids Jacket
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: XXS
We bought this jacket for my 5 year old son to replace his current hand me down. Our 8 year old also has this jacket and it is a year old; still holding together strongly. It definitely gets great use!
This is great jacket for your kiddo who likes to be outside in the cold and wet! It is very warm and has kept both our boys dry on some wet days in the snow. The zipper is very easy for a child to zip up which is great because sometimes the zippers get stuck making it difficult. This jacket is not the case, we have had no issues with a stuck zipper!
The overall durability is wonderful. This coat has held up to being worn many times in the past year by my 8 year old. He wears it daily when going out in the winter, which is a about 6 months. It has also been worn in the summer when camping and temperatures are colder at night. No tears yet and my kiddos are pretty rough on their clothing. They are active boys :)
We bought an XXS for our 5 year old and XS for our 8 year old(at 7 years old.) They both have had room to grow in this jacket. They are not very tall so these sizes were perfect for their build. I would say this jacket fits fairly true to size but you can't go wrong with up sizing either. Laying underneath and room to grow are always a plus!
Great jacket, will buy again when they need the next size!
Great Jacket for the Kids
- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
- Fit: True to size
Size small for a 4-year-old boy, fit was perfect. The jacket is warm, and keeps little humans dry, solid buy.
Great jacket for the little ones
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: Small
I bought this jacket for my son hoping that the expansion part works. I haven't figured it out yet, but I sized up so he can at least get a couple winters out of it. What matters most is that it has done great at keeping him warm and dry. Don't let the lightweightedness of it fool you; your child will stay warm, even with minimal layering. It also kept the little dude dry in heavy, cold downpours. You'll want to plop a beanie on their head, though, as the hood isn't quite adequate enough as the rest of the jacket is.
What size does the medium fit
My son Is 8 and wears 8-10
The medium fits size 10-12! The small is a size 8, so I would probably stick to a medium for this!
Hope this helps,
