Why We Like The Coleman Vintage Steel Belted Cooler

Coleman's Vintage Steel Belted Cooler looks like it came out of a time capsule from the fifties, except it has all the upgraded features we like for modern camping. We like its steel-belted insulation that keeps ice frozen much longer than the cooler from yesteryear.

Good short day trip cooler.

Surprisingly tough body and lid, color selection is pretty okay. Not super huge at that capacity like some are, however, that comes at the cost of insulation. I think they also cheaped out on the latch. Seems like every time we hit a bump we would hear a twang from the lid popping open, which greatly affected the performance of the cooler keeping ice.

Work great!

Really nice cooler. I love the color and the ideal they build it with steel is awesome because it keep the cold for a really long time. It’s a little heavy may not too convenient for moving around with you.

A rugged performer!

If you cannot tell by the photo this cooler has been heavily loved by my family. It is shocking how long this thing keeps ice cold for. I recently forgot to dump it out after using it at our last soccer game for almost a week, and when I remembered, our drinks were still freezing cold! We love this cooler and will definitely buy it again in the future.

Cheaply made - broke quickly - no support

Steel latch mechanism broke, making it impossible to close, after about 5 vacations worth of use. Reached out to Coleman for help; they gave me a Salesforce link to upload pictures of the issue to get a replacement, and then they ghosted me: didn't reach out for more information, didn't send a new cooler -- crickets. The vintage look makes you think it's an heirloom quality piece. It is a lookalike that's poorly made and you won't get the support you'd expect from a brand that stands behind its quality. Not worth the money.- Go all plastic.

It does keep ice as advertised until the latch breaks. Latch keeper is very flimsy and will eventually break. Once that happens your seal is lost and you have to keep it shut with bungee cords. It did last more than a year, but not as long lasted their older coolers. Not the same product. Coleman makes some great all-plastic varieties. I am going with one of those.

53 years and counting

I’ve been a Coleman product user for over 53 years. Stove, tent heater , couple of coolers with No complaints. Passed on to my son the steel belted I had in the early 70’s a few yrs back. Missed the quality. Bought a new on. John Baker (Happy camper)

Keeps cold for days

This is the only cooler you will ever need and I mean that. I have this exact cooler but it was my dads and is over 30 years old and still keep everything cold for DAYS - yes I said days. The construction of the cooler is pretty indestructible and has held up to years of use.

Coleman

Coleman makes some of the best camping supplies on the market. They’ve been around forever and definitely a name you can trust when it comes to the comfort and safety of my friends and family.
