The Coleman 2-Panel 400L LED Lantern will be your go-to device for camping, power outages, and more. Two detachable panels make it easy to take light with you without carrying the entire lantern. Simply pop one or both panels off the base to use as a personal light or flashlight for navigating your dark campsite or house. Great Product
I purchased this Coleman 2 panel lantern about a year ago. I have found it to be a very well designed product, it works great, well beyond my expectations. I purchased 4 d-cell alkaline battery's, put them in the lantern, and they charged up the two removable side panels. The side panels came lightly charged with rechargeable batteries in them. In several hours the side panels were charged up and "quite bright". Now, here's how I found the best way to use this fine product. After the 2 side panels were charged up, I took the 4 d-cell batteries 'out' of the lantern, and saved them for later use, they're "not" needed any more if you just want to use the charged up removable side panels, and those side panels hold their charge for a very long time too. If for some reason you need a whole lot of light, put the 4 d-cell battery's back to the lantern for 4 side lighting, other than that, leave the d-cell battery's out, and use those detachable side panels for your special projects. I haven't used it to charge a cell phone yet, but I'm sure it will. GREAT PRODUCT, in fact I purchased a second one to have it on hand if I should need it.

Side panels don’t charge
I have only used this lantern a few times but I can never get the side panels to light up when detached. Installing D-batteries is the only way to charge the side panels, but again they don’t charger or light up when detached.

Side Panels do not Charge
The side panels do not charge. I just bought this have had the main batteries in for 3 days and the panels do not work unless attached to the base.

Led panels fail to recharge
Have used this lantern several times ... it has chewed through 3 sets of batteries and the led panels only work while attached to the base ... the have never recharged on the base unit .....

Bright, multifunctional flashlight & charges phone
I got this as a gift so I didn't do my homework before purchasing which worked out great because the ratings are not nearly as good as they should be. We have used for power outages and hiking/camping. We use the lowest setting to walk the narrow mountain roads at night so cars can see us but it isn't too bright in their eyes. It has many lighting options and rechargeable side panels. The fact that it can charge our phones has been awesome during power outages. We are still on our same original set of Amazon disposable batteries. We were going to buy rechargeable batteries found there was absolutely no need. It's just as simple to have one backup set of batteries. LOVE this lantern.

Good concept, poor execution.
The batteries drain over a relatively short period of time period of time due to constant drain current even when switched off.

2-panel lantern
Very good lantern! We bought 150 for our employees. Everyone was happy. Gave only 4 stars instead of 5 because some batteries on panels were dead - won't even recharge. So we had to buy rechargeable batteries which are not cheap.

I have an older 4 panel version of this light and I love it!! But when I ordered this one it the removable panels won’t work. Return it !!!

Removable panels don't charge
Whole unit works great, but the panels don't work when removed. I replaced the batteries in the panels with regular AAA and the panels lit up. Either the battery charge system is faulty or the rechargeable batteries that are included are defective.
