Keep your BB spinning like new or swap out heavy-duty grease for lightweight lube with the Chris King 24mm Bottom Bracket Injector Tool. Compatible with all Chris King Bottom Brackets, push-type grease guns, and universal-fitting grease guns, the Injection Tool simultaneously purges old grease and inserts shiny new grease to keep your cranks spinning smoothly. Is this necessary?

Unquestionably, a tool like this might offer some appeal to those who feel it will simplify the maintenance task, but I've been maintaining and servicing my bottom bracket bearings (and all other bearings) for many years by the traditional methods. I tried this tool (borrowed from a friend) and thought of it as a somewhat cool tool, but as a personal note, I would prefer to stick to conventional methods and reallocate the $55 to some other special tool or an upgrade.

Bottom line...unnecessary expenditure for a task that's not difficult to begin with. But I'm sure if offers appeal to some. Now if you could produce a tool that would lubricate your BB without having to remove the crank and spindle, That would be a 'need-to-have' tool.

      Nice to have

I like to do it myself instead of paying someone else. Good to freshen up the bearings every once in a while, and there is no point in buying quality gear and then failing to maintain it properly. Also, the silver nipple is a Zerk fitting that works with the Speedplay grease gun's Zerk adaptor.
