    Unicorn Chaser Splitboard

Finding a powdery pillow line during a dry period in the middle of winter is just as magical as finding a unicorn on any given day, which is probably how Chimera came up with the Unicorn Chaser Splitboard's name. With a directional swallowtail, the Unicorn Chaser certainly thrives in powder, with snow shooting out the back like it was a snow machine. Its LongWave profile pairs a pow-floating, early rise tip with camber under your back foot that propels you forward every time you press down. The tight sidecut holds a great edge if you don't end up finding any unicorns that day.

To keep things light, Chimera built the Unicorn Chaser with three-axis carbon stringers to assure proper flex without weighing you down. These carbon stringers also help on the skin track by adding a snappy reaction at every kick turn. The topsheet sheds snow and ice to keep weight off your board, and the Safety Base stays bright and visible for extra safety in the backcountry. There are clips and hooks to keep the board's halves together for the ride down.

    Fun and flingable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I took this board on a handful of skins...Both Groomers and backcountry. I found it a little soft for the uphill climbs, but once you clip this bad boy back together is when the magic really happens. Turns and burns like an F-14 Tomcat in full attack mode. I found it moves on groomers like a rocket, while being fun and flexible.

Overall impressions were solid build quality, Interesting and dun fun/dare I say playful ride characteristics. I used some borrowed skins sourced from Voile during the testing.

If you're looking for something different, playful, and that will turn heads, I suggest one of these Bad Boys in your Quiver.

I used this on a handful on tours and I have to say, this is a ton of fun to get turns on, it has a much bigger set back and a huge nose, this is rad if you want a pow ripper. Skins very well on the up and had no issues at all! Karakoram split clips are super solid keeping torsional stiffness. I am use to softer boards so I wasn't able to whip any pow butters like I wanted to, which is more of a personal issue I have with this board. But I can really see myself falling in love very quick! This thing in the pow is so quick edge to edge and made for a easy tree run. Also the camber profile is super interesting, looks like the only camber is on the back foot and everything else is flat to rockered nose. It felt amazing! Also this model I rode has a mostly black base with the company name if you were curious about that.

    Chase the Unicorn

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is the most fun you can have on a splitboard. The UC shape is an absolute blast in soft snow, making the deepest snow easy to ride. It also does a respectable job on hardpack making it a great all around board. There are a lot of splitboard brands out there, and a lot boards with a similar shape. But trust me none of them ride like the Unicorn Chaser. Emerging from the Wasatch underground, don't sleep on Chimera. Buy short, go big.
