A modern hiking boot with classic styling.

You have your new pack, tent, and sleeping bag all packed up and ready to hit the trails. The only problem is your slowly rotting pair of hiking boots that pre-date your house and those college sweatpants. Not to worry, the Men's Roland Hiking Boots from Chaco are here to provide you with years of foot-friendly hiking. Water-resistant leather and suede form the upper sections of these attractive boots, while a polyurethane footbed helps to provide comfort and support throughout the day. If you find yourself with a heavy pack, you'll really appreciate the injection-molded nylon shank that runs through the midsole. Partially recycled EcoTread rubber on the bottom ensures traction through all manner of terrain.

    Great Boots!

I got these not too long ago as a entry level hiking boot. These are awesome boots for the money; super comfortable. Feels like you're wearing the Chaco sandals just a little more protection. One negative point is that they have zero water resistances fresh due soaked right through. Overall great dry weather boot!

      Good everyday boot.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

This is a great looking boot with a nice fit and quality materials. That said, this is not a go anywhere, do anything boot. The tread is not robust enough for serious days out in the mountains.

For light hiking, kicking around town, or otherwise casual use these will be a great addition to shoe rack. If you're looking to purchase a boot dedicated to hiking only I'd probably look elsewhere.

      Not for rock scrambling

The boot itself is nice, looks good, forms to the foot well and is warm. However I was quite disappointed in the boots grip, I was hiking around Little Cottonwood Canyon and whenever I came across a boulder I had to be extremely cautious. I had a crash pad on my back (I assume a backpacking backpack would have the same effect) and nearly fell over walking on a granite boulder simply because I didn't have the friction I use to having with my old shoes (vans). Aside from this the boots have been great. Recommend for easy hikes and everyday use.

Right boot for the right task

Personally I really like these boots. They are good looking, fit true to size and have some added volume. My foot is a D width and I can still comfortably wear a medium weight sock without being uncomfortable. I bought these more for around town and light hiking. I live in the Mountains so technically I step out of my house and I am "hiking". They were instantly comfortable out of the box which I think the light lugged outsole helps with. I would not use these for backpacking or anything that would require technical use - but for everyday use they are great.

      Bad boot

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

I used these boots a few days for work to break them in, I walk mow and after two days of walking with no blisters I was happy with the out of the box fit and feel. However these boots might as well be made out of sponge because they are terrible in any sort of wet grass, even short golf course grass. I then used these boots on a five day back packing trip in the Hunter Frying Pan Wilderness. The breathability helped them dry after becoming fully wet during the day. The soft leather did not provide good support or protection and the thin rubber sole seemed to get worse by the day. These boots are more like moccasins and if you want an expensive moccasin than this may be the boot for you.
