Odyssey Sandal

For all-day summer adventures that involve everything from wading across rivers to scrambling up loose boulder fields, turn to the Chaco Odyssey Sandal. This water shoe-sandal hybrid uses a hydrophobic mesh upper for durability and lightweight breathability that also dries quickly while on the move. Then, the lightweight treated LuvSeat footbed offers contoured arch-support with high rebound to hold its shape over time, as well as fights off funky odors thanks to its special application. The adjustable ankle strap locks down just the right fit to meet your adventure, while the ChacoGrip Plus outsole boasts a toothy tread pattern that grips rock and gravel on the trail and sticks its landing on contact with wet surfaces.

So I received a pair of Chaco Odyssey Sandals last month from Backcountry to try out and give a review. I've been running rivers for over 30 years mainly in Pacific Northwest Rivers. The Chaco Odyssey Sandal are the most comfortable river shoes I have used in the last 30 years. It has the same foot bed of most Chacos but the toe cover adds the needed foot protection for active river running and scouting. The traction provided by the Odyssey is on par with 5.10 River Tennie or Astral river shoe. The comfort of the Odyssey in my opinion is better than the Astral or 5.10. The high top Astral offers more foot protection on the river mainly because of the ankle support. Overall the Odyssey is one hell of a product - I can't speak to the durability of the Odyssey as I've only had them a month but the build quality is there. I've had these on five kayaking trips in Oregon and Washington and the traction on the banks around here was excellent. I had one river rescue and the good news is I never thought about my shoes during the excitement - they just performed. In summary I would recommend them to anyone looking for a solid river running shoe or anyone who is active around a river. See you on the River! Danny
