Comfortable chill.

We've all been there, patching together winter kit and pushing the limits of how deep into the winter we can make our summer shorts work with an aging pair of leg warmers. As fun as it is to take pride in minimalist kit and toughing it out in the elements, riding in the chill is a whole lot more comfortable when you're in a proper pair of winter tights like Castelli's Velocissimo 3 Men's Bib Tights.

The Velocissimos are built from soft, warm, and stretchy Thermoflex fabric, a staple across Castelli's cold-weather line. Thermoflex's brushed lining keeps the cold out and wicks moisture without irritating skin. The bibs are made from light, breathable mesh, and the KISS Air chamois insert affords enough comfort for all your long-mile, base-building needs. The fit is snug and streamlined, making them ideal for early season races over unexpectedly frost-covered roads, with zippered ankles to hold the cuffs snuggly in place.

Castelli recommends these bib tights for use between 45 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit, but you may find them useful in lower temperatures depending on your intended effort levels for the day. The more cold-compatible among us definitely wear them into the low 40s.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

After sending back the large and receiving the medium these fit perfectly. Comfortable chamois and good for temps down to the high 30’s so long as there isn’t a ton of wind. I’m 5’11 and 155 pounds, more on the slim side but not a total stick. They’re supposed to be tight with compression in order for the chamois to stay put. The size chart was accurate for this product, but I can’t speak for other Castelli’s as the sizing seems to vary by product.

My new favorite bibs

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium
  • Height: 5'5"
  • Weight: 160lbs

The fit of these is typical Castelli, pretty small/tight. I'm fairly short at 5'5" and ordered the medium as I'm a bit muscular and small is just too slim. I will say, even being short, these should straps are tight, though not to the point of uncomfortable. The material is great, the chamois is comfortable on long rides, and the best part is the temperature range. I could wear these from 45-65+. Plenty warm for the colder temps (I wear my fleece lined bibs below 45), but even when it gets warmer out I don't get too hot. Honestly I could probably wear them in 70's if desired. Highly recommend.

Another nice Castelli piece!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

Castelli states this piece is good to a temperature range of about 45-60 degrees F. I tend to run cold but with the addition of some knee warmers on a recent ride, I can attest to the 45-degree limit. My legs stayed slightly coolish but my knees were toasty warm so all-in-all it functions just as Castelli describes.

Even better for those of us who run cold, I used them under a pair of uninsulated but windproof cycling pants the other day when temps were in the upper 20s and they were perfect! My legs stayed comfortably warm and never felt overheated. I'm guessing I could ride into the middle to lower 20s and still be comfortable.

They fit pretty snugly but I think that's just the way Castelli fits in their bibs (I have a couple other pairs). As always, I buy the next size up since Castelli runs small.

tight straps but fits well.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL
  • Height: 5'10"
  • Weight: 220lbs

When i first put them on the straps seemed very tight. I thought it was going to be an issue and it hasn't been.

Been using them for a few weeks now. I would recommend them again.

Trial run

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

This review based on my first ride with this bib tight. 25 mile ride. I'm 6', 175. The fit is great, bought a medium. From the waist down is a comfortable race fit, however I'm a bit long in the torso so the bib straps are a little tight with the medium but not enough to cause discomfort and actually stretched out a bit during the ride and they will likely stretch a bit more over time. The pad is very comfy, thought it might be a bit tight against my junk because of the tight straps but was totally fine. Will see how it does on longer rides. All in all, am very satisfied with the fit and feel and kept my legs warm, though it wasn't super cold, I didn't over heat either. Though I indicate it runs small I like the tighter fit, so for me it is actually true to size.

Unlike Matt I couldn't even fit in the Medium yet I am 5'11 / 160lbs. Kept the Large. Love them. Much tighter (almost compression?), warmer and better built than the Pearl Izumi I had been wearing (they feel like pajamas now). Tight around the ankles which makes me worry a little that the zipper won't last. And definitely good for riding in the 30s. Strong recommendation. And hope them make them as knickers.
