There's a die-hard pro-bib faction out there, but there's a growing group that contends that bibs aren't really cut out for ladies in the first place. If you're not into the slightly tweaked men's bibs that are marketed as female-specific gear, the Castelli Velocissima Women's Shorts might be right up your alley. They're a straightforward short, without bells and whistles but with a thoughtful design and convenient features to keep you rolling in comfort on short, medium, and long-distance rides.
The heart of the Velocissima is the Endurance Evolution fabric, which provides compressive support to reduce muscle fatigue and manage moisture. Not only will you feel cooler and drier, but your muscles won't fatigue as quickly, so your 100-miler will feel like a 75-mile cruise. Just as key is the KISS4 Air Donna chamois, a women's-specific pad designed to eliminate pressure points and provide extra padding in key areas. Castelli finished the Velocissima off with flat-form waist paneling for a comfortable fit around the waistline and a Giro3 elastic-free leg gripper that helps eliminate pinching and rubbing.

Order a size up

I saw the reviews that said these ran small and ordered a large. (I am usually a medium in Pearl Izumi and other brands.) These seem really well made and the chamois was really comfortable this morning the first time I wore them. I like the strip of material that goes around the bottom of the legs - it seems to decrease the sausage effect I get from some other shorts. The waist band seems sort of like yoga pants in the front and back (not sides oddly) which seemed to help them feel comfortable during the ride. These are really comfortable shorts and I’m considering getting another pair.

Way to SMALL! WAY TO SMALL!
- Size Bought

I wear a small in every other brand, 5"2/118 lbs and even the medium was to small, couldnt get them over my thighs. RIDICULOUS! MORE UPSET WITH CC for not returning any of my emails to return these, so I suppose I'm stuck with a new pair of shorts that will never fit.

Tightest shorts of my life
- Fit:
- Runs small
I've always been a fan of Castelli but I literally could not get these shorts over my legs. I am 5/4, 120 pounds and ordered a medium. I would probably need an XL based on how small these shorts are, but I'm so unhappy with the size and quality I am sending them back.

I love my Castelli shorts in general. However, this one disappoints as the the elastic leg gripper gave out after about maybe 15 rides. And I wash all my cycling wear in delicate cycle, with sports wash and hung to dry. Still like the brand just not this particular shorts.

Very small

Take this all with a grain of salt because I've never worn a chamois when riding and only tried this one on in the house. I ordered a small based on other's reviews, but it was still too small. My waist is 27 and my hips are 34.5; I'm 5'1" and weigh approx 110 lbs. They fit fine everywhere but the waist (too tight). This is the part to take with a grain of salt: the pad felt too stiff and like it would rub when pedaling. I hate giving it stars since I never actually wore it while biking, but that's not an option.

Fit well and pretty comfortable for rides in the 50 mi range. They do run quite snug though, as does as all Castelli. Washed about 10+ times so far and are in good shape.

After reading reviews how Castelli apparel runs small, I consulted the size chart and fell squarely in the small range. To be safe I ordered both a pair of smalls and medium. I am 5 ft, 3 inches tall and weigh 102 lbs. The smalls should have been perfect but I could hardly get them pulled up. I kept the mediums and sent back the smalls. The mediums are quite comfortable, my only complaint is that the leg bands flare out. The flaring makes the shorts look a little silly. Because of this I am not 100% happy with them. I don't know if other Castelli shorts do this. I would hope not.

First off...I LOVE castelli! Bought this product knowing they ran small. The look of the short were too good to pass up. I would normally take a small, possibly a medium to be on the safe side but I had to have a large with these and they are pretty darn snug. The padding really does it's job and if you don't have to be standing around in the shorts all day then they're a good pair of riding shorts.

In general, I am a pretty big Castelli fan. But these shorts totally missed the mark. I tried them on and instantly disliked them. The fabric lacked uniform stretch. The stitching was binding in the wrong areas and the waistband was way too high. I would say they run a FULL size too small. Just can't find anything to like about them.

These shorts are incredible. I wore them on an 8 day 500+mile bike tour of England and they didn't disappoint. The stay put leg bands really work without feeling sticky and the high cut back gives perfect coverage. I even had a wreck and tore myself up a bit, see pictures, and the shorts barely scuffed. Following reviews of them running small, I bought the large where I'm usually a medium. I'm 5'5" 147 lbs, with a booty, and the size large fits perfectly. 10/10 would recommend.

After going through a few different "others", I pulled on these shorts. Where others failed between mile 40 and 60 (3-5 hrs), these passed with flying colors! As I built miles from 60-100 (5-8 hrs in the saddle) I hardly noticed a change in the feel of these shorts. No irritation from seams or design, and no bruising from the saddle. *note* I sized up - I'm about 35-28-38 (thick thighs) and had to exchange for a large.

I am a pretty solid medium (sometimes even small) in womens cycling clothing but these shorts run super small. I would size up at least 1 size. I could barely pull the medium on so they will be returned.

I'm 5'5", 115 lbs, hips measure 35" and I ordered the small, which was plenty snug putting them on the first time. After several wears, they've stretched out just a bit but fabric is compressive by design without a lot of give. Once on the bike, they are by far the most comfortable shorts / chamois I've worn for longer (50 mile) rides. The chamois works great for me with hardly a wiggle to reposition myself. I would suggest sizing up one size. I love them and am buying a second pair, but will purchase the medium.

These are nice quality shorts, and the padding seems like it would be quite nice and breathable. Unfortunately they were too small for me. I normally wear a size small in cycling shorts, which is what I ordered, but I could just barely even get these on. I liked them them enough that I think I may try a size medium.

I had the same problem. But the medium is too big in the legs.. I don't like the new material they are using, there is zero stretch.

can anyone help with sizing? I know Castelli runs super small, just wondering if I go by the size chart if they will be too small??
