Keep your core happy

Sometimes your core needs an extra layer between it and Mother Nature's varying conditions. A base layer won't keep the drizzle away, but a full jacket is overkill. Castelli's Velo Vest is a lightweight breathable alternative that easily packs in your pocket when the sun starts to shine. Zip it up over a long sleeve jersey and be prepared for impromptu drizzle.

Castelli used Forcefield Fabric to construct the Velo Vest. This extremely lightweight fabric is a 30 gram, ripstop material that is windproof and water-resistant. It was given a DWR (Durable Water Resistant) coating. It's so light, in fact, that you'll barely notice you're wearing it. Additionally, it is highly breathable so that when you are working up a sweat you won't get drenched from the inside-out. Furthermore, the vest features mesh side panels to help heat ventilate from your core. It should be noted that while the Velo vest is ideal for drizzle or windy conditions, it is not constructed with fully taped, waterproof seams. If you need a layer to keep a deluge at bay take a look at the Castelli Pocket Liner Jacket

The vest was cut with a longer back for better coverage. A high mesh collar keeps drizzle from running down your neck, and when the sun comes out, the mesh neck turns into a pocket in which to store the entire vest. It only takes up half a jersey pocket so it's perfect to carry on those days when the sun doesn't look like it's going to keep the rain at bay. Castelli added a reflective logo and back tabs to increase your visibility in low-light conditions.

Castelli's Velo Vest is available in six sizes from Small to XXX-large and in four colors: White, Orange fluo, Lime, and Black.

Size down if you like race fit - Medium

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

Very thin, takes the edge off windy days. Doesn't feel plastic-y to me.

I agree, it's club fit. Size down if you like race fit. I wear Large castelli elemento and alpha, but medium vest was perfect.
chest 39, waist 31

I ordered White, Orange, Yellow. I kept White. Orange was super bright which I didn't expect. The picture seemed a little burnt orange which I wanted. The yellow matched the photo, just too bright for me.

Pretty dang good

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium
  • Height: 5'11"
  • Weight: 160lbs

The reviews have pretty much covered it already, just a straight up ultralight wind vest which is perfect. I have lots of vests and many try to do too much., which limits the versatility., and make you look like Quasimodo when you try to stuff it into a jersey pocket. Agree with previous reviewer that it's a club fit, which usually for Castelli means a Pro fit, but this one seems rationally sized.

I dig it.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Med
  • Height: 5'11"
  • Weight: 165lbs

Great vest for keeping the wind off my chest. Nice for spring time! NOT A WINTER VEST. Light and easy to pack in your back pocket... just in case.

Great for chilly rides

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: small
  • Height: 5'9"
  • Weight: 154lbs

Great as a basic layer for chilly rides, lightweight and breathable. I like the transparent look that can show your jersey. Fit is true to size, kinda club fit, if you like race fit maybe you should size down.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

I'm generally a fan of Castelli but this vest lacks style and the material feels plastic-y. The color described as white is closer to transparent. Unlike most Castelli this runs true to size (I'm 6'0, 165 lbs and a medium fit fine).

sizes are not accurate at all?

  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 3XL
  • Height: 6'
  • Weight: 235lbs

usually XXXL # 3XL it's really large enough and loosen not tight.
this item I can't even put it on it's like a medium size? must be made in China? your product don't reflect back country at all please insure the right sizes in the future or tell the clients that they sizes very small so we can take 6 sizes over the normal sizes!!!!! that it's the first time that I order CASTELLI 3XL and I cannot weir it because its to small?????

Perfect for chilly mornings

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

This vest has a great fit, like all Castelli pieces I've worn. I'm 5'7" and 130lbs, and I got a size small. It knocks down the wind and pairs really well with arm warmers down to the low '50s or high '40s. The one thing is, it tends to get some condensation build up from sweat on the inside. For a single ply, light weight shell I wouldn't expect it to be too breathable, but it's worth a mention. Also adds a pop of visibility to dark cycling clothes.

Spring & Fall go-to item

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

As a vest, you have no sleeve length issues, thus driving me to get a Medium. The Large was too baggy. Normally, Castelli gear demands I order a Large. I'm 5'11", 155lbs.

It is a light-duty vest, you'd not get hot in it, but will help keep your core temp up, and visibility high if you get the orange.

Disappointed with the fit

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Liked the idea of this vest, color and construction was good but disappointing fit. I normally wear an L in Castelli (6", 165lbs) but this was was too baggy, especially when bent over in riding position. Think the vented side panels allow the vest to bunch up in front. Might consider re-ordering a medium.

Unanswered Question

Is this vest transparent? I've seen mixed reviews. I have the women's Leggera vest, which looks similar and is not transparent.
