    For the rest of us.

We all know that a superstar is nothing without a loyal cadre of domestiques he knows will take miles of headwind or break away into no man's land for him.  Bringing to mind the lieutenants and the domestiques, the selfless riders that place team above all else, the Castelli Team Sky Volo Bib Short works as hard as its more photogenic sibling, the Free Aero, without as much glitz and charisma in its straightforward construction. It delivers workhorse dependability on training rides long or short, and won't break the bank for those of us who haven't been handed a custom Free Aero kit for race season, just yet.

Of course, we can't help but make a nostalgic comparison to Froome and Porte's fabled partnership when we ruminate on the GC-domestique relationship and Sky. Like Porte himself, there's nothing stopping the Volo from breaking away and making a go at victory on its own, if given the chance. Celebrating the new exclusive partnership between Castelli and Sky, the Volo's team aesthetics match those that you'll see throughout the peloton this year. It's built, of course, on the platform of Castelli's Volo bib short, which features dimpled Affinity BLC fabric on the outer leg to limit drag as you ride, and Affinity Lycra along the inner legs to support and stabilize your muscles as you pull yourself through a headwind on an evening ride. The Volo's KISS Air chamois represents the most significant difference between the Volo and the Free Aero, with the KISS featuring a slightly less precise shape than Castelli's top-end Progetto X2 Air. It will still loyally cushion and support your sensitive regions on rides of varying distances, but without as finely tuned of a design.

    • Ride for your own victories without breaking the bank
    • Slim fit accommodates a range of body types
    • The supportive fabric is aerodynamic and breathable
    • KISS Air chamois is Castelli's workhorse model
    • GIRO Air grippers subtly hold leg endings in place
    • Airy, minimal mesh bib provides support without bulk
    • Reflective accents help you stay visible to motorists
    • Item #CST00PC

For the sale price you can’t go wrong

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 174lbs

I agree with Brian R’s review mainly however I must have a shorter torso as the straps are fine on me. Fit is tighter side similar to my free Aeros but just doing a sumo squat after putting them on seems to stretch them out perfectly. For the sale price these are unbeatable in my opinion.

Not bad entry level bibs (RUNS SMALL)

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

First things first, the size chart is off - don’t believe it and order up. I am 5’9”/168lbs and given that the size chart for a “Large” has a waist of 34”/chest 40” the bib shorts should have fit nicely ...they didn’t.

While the waist was okay (I am a 32/33” waist depending on beer consumption) the straps for torso was waaaay too short - so much so that my “boys” were uncomfortably pulled up during a 50 mile ride. Order at least one size up if you ever want children or full functionality in the future.

The pad was “okay” for 3 hours with significant climbing, time will tell over longer miles as it seems to flatten out towards the front over time.

All in all, I don’t want to sound negative as this is not a bad entry level set of bib shorts. If you are looking to make the switch from tri or cycling shorts, then don’t wait is definitely worth it.
