The pinnacle of function and style.

Castelli sought to create an impossibly light, impeccably cut bib short with long-ride resilience to add to its women's line, and the result is its new Mondiale Women's Bib Shorts. Crafted with a blend of highly functional materials and all of the clean style that Castelli is known for, the Mondiale Bib Shorts now occupy the highest tier of Castelli's venerable women's bib line.

One of Castelli's goals when designing the Mondiales was to introduce shorts that riders would forget they had on during a ride. While we'd agree with Castelli in admitting that this is still an ongoing goal, the Mondiales get very close. Featuring a brand new proprietary Castelli fabric, Cinquanta, the shorts achieve an incredibly contoured fit due to the fabric's 50% Lycra composition while still retaining next-to-skin softness and avoiding restriction.

Castelli takes advantage of Cinquanta's high rebound properties by reducing the panel count, deviating from the traditional eight-panel construction to allow for fewer seams and further improve the anatomical fit. Seamless, reinforced side panels on each leg provide more support to the hardworking muscles on the outsides of the hips, especially the IT bands. In addition to being a well-deserving place for added support, this ultralight, form-fitting extra layer also creates a clean, slimming silhouette that integrates beautifully with Castelli's inclusion of a more subtle version of its classic logo.

Castelli adds its top-end Progetto X2 Air Donna chamois to the Mondiale, readying the shorts for long, slow base mile rides and hill repeats alike. The luxurious Progetto X2 features multi-density foam in a strategic topography that's supportive without making you feel like you're sitting on a throw pillow, and it's been anatomically shaped to ensure the chamois moves with you as you pedal. The insert is covered with a micro-denier, four-way stretch, bacteriostatic layer to facilitate airflow and reduce the likelihood of chafing and irritation

We've seen bib strap construction improving every season, moving far away from bulky mesh and ill-fitting silhouettes. With the Mondiale, Castelli adds an impossibly light bonded bib, complete with laser-cut ventilation holes on the back for breathability in a tailored, lie-flat design. The included SnapLock fastener allows for quick, mid-ride nature breaks, and the bonded construction of the bottom leg hems — complete with silicone grip — equips the Mondiale to follow your every move in the saddle without any bunching or slipping.

    Bike bibs

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 128lbs

Not enough padding on sides of chamois but otherwise great fitting short
I would not wear on long rides, you will get chaffed on the sides even with ample butter

    Made in USA

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 120lbs

My wife LOVES her Mondiale bib shorts, she is up to 3 pairs now. She has picked them up on sale and they're worth every penny. I can't keep her out of them, she would probably sleep in them if it wasn't weird. They're the perfect thickness for spring through fall and the shoulder straps are laser cut and very comfortable.

Best of all, it says "Made in USA" on the inside of the bib shorts.

    There's a reason they're expensive

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Finally got these when they went on sale, so glad I did. I prefer bibs but need drop tails for where I ride. The fit is perfect. Compressive without a separate leg band for the sausage look, and leg hem stays in place. The straps feel like nothing at all. I thought they'd be too short, but this is some serious compression; I didn't have them pulled up all the way in the back. Once they were on properly, the fit is perfect. The waist is at my natural waist rather than low rise, which I love; it's time for cycling shorts to get past 2012. Inseam is 6". Drop tail device seems flimsy, but stays snapped. Just wish it was in front to avoid awkward fumbling to close it.

    Castelli Fail

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 155lbs

I wanted to love these bibs. The chamois seems really nice, but overall they are major fail. On the pair I received, the reinforcing inside one of the legs was already separating from the shorts fabric. But even if that were not the case, these bibs have other major problems. The whole point of bibs is that they get rid of the waist, but these are basically shorts with stretchy suspenders sewn on in lieu of a waistband—the bib is in no way integrated (by comparison, look at the men’s Mondiale bib and you can see the difference in construction). The result is a low-rise shorts-with-suspenders that is incredibly unflattering. As far as the back clasp goes, it seems to hold okay, but it’s made of plastic nubs and it’s just a tension fit, so I’m doubtful it will last.

    Ciao Mondiale!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bib shorts that will open up a world a possibilities. In my experience, the first couple of rides with a new pair of bib shorts usually means that there will be time spent getting acquainted. Not so with the Mondiale, it was love at first voyage. The Progetto X2 Air Donna chamois is amazing on its own, then add to that superior fit, seamless construction plus lie-flat straps, and you're ready to conquer whatever the road throws your way. I'll admit that I was wary about the back clasp, worrying that it might remind me that it was there the whole ride or come apart but this hasn't been the case. It hasn't caused any discomfort or chafing, and is quite convenient when nature calls. If you're ready to take on the world, the Mondiale bib short is the perfect companion.
