Racing triathlon can be full of challenges, and Castelli attacks those demands head-on in its line of tri clothing, anticipating the needs of triathletes before they can become complaints. The Free Tri top is a longstanding example of that, and as part of Castelli's Rosso Corsa line, it's at the top end of Castelli's tri apparel hierarchy. After you strip off your confining wetsuit, the Free Tri top's SpeedFreak ventilated front panel and Velocity mesh back work to dry as quickly as possibly when you hop on the bike. Velocity mesh is also known for its aerodynamic properties, so it will work with your aerobars as you pedal, helping you conserve valuable watts to take with you to the run.
Once you do coast into transition and breathlessly rack your bike, the Free Tri transforms into a fully-functional, technical running top, adapted to tri with a SnapLock fastener at the lower back for clipping the jersey to the shorts to prevent it from riding up while running. For triathletes who don't find the fit of one-piece tri suits to be optimal, this thoughtful design choice eliminates one of the only criticisms against the freedom of two-piece tri kit. Other well-executed details include a YKK Camlock half-zipper, pockets optimized for aero- and hydrodynamics, and soft arm seams that significantly lessen the likelihood of painful chafing when the fabric is wet, allowing you to focus on earning yourself a spot on the age group podium.
- Item #CST00BG
- Q & A
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: M
- Height: 5'8"
- Weight: 163lbs
I bought this because tri singlet's where not working for me (too tight around the core). I ran a couple of super sprint and one sprint race and I'm really happy with it, it's not too tight and you barely feel it while racing.
The only thing is that the M size might be a little small for me. While racing it moves a little bit. My bet is that using the matching short could make this better.
