Free Aero Race 4 Team Bib Short

The Free Aero Race 4 Team Bib Short from Castelli is built using extensive feedback from the professionals on Team Sky. Its general consensus is the existing Free Bibshort was already pretty well dialed and the only requests were the addition of a loop in the bib to hold a race radio microphone and one rider wanting his chamois shifted back a bit. Team Sky isn't the only one who likes it, in fact, the Free Aero Race Bibshort is the best-selling Castelli short of all time, so it knew that when it was time for an update, it wanted to make it better but not change the shorts too drastically. As far as the "Team" moniker goes, the only difference we can tell over the standard version is the inclusion of white Castelli lettering at the bottom of the legs.

First up is a new leg gripper that still features a lie-flat, raw-cut edge but now has vertical silicone stripes to hold it comfortably in place without restricting stretch. Next is a new fabric that allows for better print quality and Castelli updated the seams to improve the fit and looks. It also re-engineered the bib straps with new fabrics and construction so they help you stay cooler, lie flat, and are more durable. Finally, it also receives the updated Progetto X2 Air seamless seat insert featuring one of the softest surfaces we've ever felt in a chamois.

Finally

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

In the timeline of my life, I am relatively new to road cycling. My first pair of bike shorts were Trayl, the now defunct Sports Authority's store brand. Go on snicker, I can take it. Needless to say, they were basement entry level and not in any way shape or form suitable for long rides. I do a 300 mile charity ride every year and every year I have managed to make progress in the bum cushioning department. I now own two different pairs of shorts by Garneau, a pair by Asis and by Sponeed. It wasn't until I purchased a pair of these, Aero 4's that I realized what I had been missing. I broke them in on an 80 mile ride and there was absolutely no pain, no chafing, no nothing. I used a minimal amount of butter. They are super light weight and offer the best compression and support of any of my bike shorts. The straps lay flat and are completely unobtrusive. As others have said, ordering a size up is wise. I'm 5'8" 190 and an XL fits very close to the body. But that's the way I like it.

Extremely Small and Inconsistent Sizing

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it
Size Bought:
XXL
Height:
6' 1"
Weight:
195

I ordered XXL in both the Team and non-Team version of the shorts - the same size of my previous Free Aero Race 4 shorts. The Team version is much smaller in size and had to be returned.
