Shedding grams and saving watts is tricky business, especially when you're wading through hyperbolic claims and constantly-changing technologies to choose kit that will actually make a difference. Before your summer race calendar gets going, upgrade your race kit with Castelli's Aero Race 5.1 Full Zip Jersey to stay aerodynamic and comfortable as you vie for a spot on the podium.

Part of what makes the Aero Race 5.1 so aerodynamic is its virtually second skin fit, which eliminates any need to size down to ensure the jersey mimics your body movements in the saddle. Castelli crafts the front of the impeccably-cut jersey using its Velocity fabric, a featherweight textile engineered with closely-woven fibers that usher air over your shoulders and back with their dimpled surface. Castelli, never satisfied with complacency, further improved Velocity this year to enable it to save a claimed two additional watts over last year's version of the fabric, making this the fastest Aero Race to date.

On the back, incredibly breathable 3D mesh fabric lifts moisture away from your skin to evaporate before you can think about feeling soggy, while its dimpled surface complements Velocity to help you slice through the wind. Castelli also includes three rear pockets held close to your body by a compressive mesh band for storing race fuel, along with reflective accents to keep the Aero Race as practical as it is aerodynamic.

    • Ride for a podium spot in this wind-cheating race jersey
    • Contoured, race fit saves watts wherever possible
    • Dimpled fabric aims to create less drag in the wind
    • Mesh panels provide constant breathability
    • Three rear pockets stash fuel for longer races
    • Waist compression band supports the pockets
    • Reflective accents help you stay visible on dim days

I've used this jersey on 90 degree days and it performs as advertised. It's well ventilated and has a very effective cooling effect. One of the best summer jerseys on the market!

I absolutely love this jersey as well as the matching bibs (a review for another time). It hits all three check boxes for me when it comes to a kit: aerodynamics, weight, and ventilation. I have put this kit through the absolute wringer. I have both raced in it and trained in it. I have done a century in it through the wet southern heat and it did a phenomenal job of keeping me cool and comfortable.

One thing that I noticed about this jersey that caught me off guard was the fit when you initially put it on. When I put it on, it was really tight across the chest. Being a former collegiate swimmer, I have really wide shoulders and a really wide chest so I was used it this thing happening. However, it was EXTRAORDINARILY tight. I was a little confused until I realized that the kit was actually cut so that when you're in an aero tuck the front of the jersey doesn't flap. I think this feature is AWESOME.

I would definitely recommend this kit for anyone looking for high performance. Plus, you can't beat the Competitive Cyclist price on these high end kits.

The Dark Infinity Blue jersey has a light blue line down the middle of the back which makes it look like a Team Sky jersey from a few seasons back. The product page really should have had a photo.

I like extremely ventilated and tight fitting jerseys. It is a bit warm in SLC this time of year and I'm always searching for the coolest(temperature) jersey. This is it. Breathes very well and pull sweat away from your skin. The evaporative cooling is awesome.

The material is a little scratchy and doesn't have much stretch. My only complaint and it is a minor one.

This jersey fits like a "race" jersey should. Tight in the shoulders, but perfect when in the riding position. Also, tight in the torso which I love love. I don't need extra fabric flapping around.

Highly recommend. Great jersey! Picture on an evening ride, guy smiling in the middle is me. Not the mean dude "Neal"ing

    Strange Castelli Fit

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 145lbs

I ordered this and had to return it because it was too big. I'm on the slimmer side (6' 145lbs) and normally Castelli medium fits me great. Overall this jersey fit me ok (not skin tight), but the deal breaker was the arms were loose on the bicep! I am honestly surprised that an "aero race" jersey is cut so loose.

    Excellent Quality

The actual top looks better than I thought!.....It fits tight as its designed for. I highly recommend this item. I haven't used it yet, but just tried it on, and I can tell it'll feel fine.

    White Jersey

This is very much a race fit, very tight in the shoulders and bicep area. So tight that when pulling it off I tore the sleeve cuff on first use. The material is like a mesh and seems fragile. Not a jersey I'd wear on club rides, fine for hot racing conditions, particularly events like Criterium. I wouldn't expect it to last very long.

    Waiting to receive the Jersey

Ordered on 7/6 with "2-day shipping". It's the 8th now, so I checked the CC site and saw it's expected to arrive on the 7/10. This is the second time CC has not adhered to the "2-day" promise. What gives?? Can I trust CC when they tell me something?.

      Small on Another Level

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: XXL
      • Height: 6'4"
      • Weight: 240lbs

My first jersey was a Castelli. Love it still. I have others and while I know I need to step up a size when ordering Castelli, this jersey was particularly small. I can't say much on performance of this jersey because I never used it. I chose the 3 stars for a "middle of the road" approach. I recommend you go 2 sizes over. The XXL was so small I didn't dare zip it up. I have XL and XXL jerseys based on manufacturer, but this one is real small.

Just a note on this - Castelli always runs small. Notably though, this is a very aggressive race-fit jersey. In other words, it's supposed to fit extremely tight to a level of compression. I'm 5'10" 140lbs and wear XS in many jerseys. For this one, it would be a medium and it would be snug (which is exactly what it's made for).

I'm 6'3" 183 (generally) and I wear size L in most Castelli. They have 3 types of product: Race (this item and "Rosso" items): fit is very tight and compressive by design; Enthusiast (snug fit but room for layers and a good bit of fat); Fair weather casual riders (square fit and would flap around on trimmer bodies).

Whenever trying on a Castelli item for the first time, put it on slowly like a wet suit. Let the material stretch to fit you. If it's really not fitting -- STOP and take it off as it will tear.
