Poor quality.

My dog was able to twist around and get unlatched. Latch broke completely after just a few months of use.

I've been using this leash for 2 years.

I have read other reviews about the clip breaking or opening but I have never had either issue with my 65 lb. field lab. I walk my dog a night and find the reflective stitching to work very well and the main reason I use this leash. The only issue I've had is when my dog is bored when I'm talking to someone on walk and he starts to chew on it. I've had to buy two in the last 18 months due to the chewing when I'm paying attention and that is my fault. I like the clip slides because I can quickly clip him to something so he can't wander off. My only complaint is that the material is not very comfortable for your hands compared to other leashes - I wish the handle was a bit softer.

WARNING!!!! Dog can break free from this leash. We are doing training with our pup and if she becomes over stimulated by a situation and reacts poorly, she can break free. Carhartt needs to fix the design of the clasp that connects to the collar. It can easily become open if a small amount of pressure is applied in the correct direction.

Like not like

I bought this leash and love the quality! But if you're walking your dog and they turn the clasp that hooks onto the harness opens!!! When I first walked my dogs with their new leash I thought I was crazy because who would design a leash that the clasp going onto their harness would open up and release when they just simply turned around. My husband walked them the next day and one dog got loose by simply turning. I went to the local hardware store and bought clasps with spinners and now we are happy with the product because they are hooked onto a spinner not the actual leash we bought. This item is well made but the design is not safe if you want to use it as a secure leash without your own alterations.

Nothing bad to say!

Honestly I can't believe this people there's not more positive reviews on this leash! I bought one in 2020 for my 8 month old Saint Bernard and I've been using the same one since! He is 200 lbs and when he sees a squirrel there is no hesitation with him on chasing it. He would pull me up a tree for one if I would let him… I'm incredibly impressed this leash hasn't snapped or torn but not surprised. It has been through the TRENCHES on all the adventures we take as well. I'll definitely repurchase if I ever need to! The only thing i would suggest is to provide directions on all the different ways you can use it!

No recemended for dogs over 70lbs issues with clips

After two weeks the C lip broke. I had my dog clipped when I was unloading my car, he jerked after a squirrel and the C clasp broke off at the connection. Went to the store and got a replacement leash ( same one ) and started using the clip on the other side. When used with the harness the clip opens up, the dog got loose few times. Finaly I started looping the leash and double cliping. One clip on the front attachment of the harness and the second on the dog's back. However, the quick release clip was bent due to the two back loops on the harness back attachment. The metal as flimsy enough to bend back with pliers. I would not recommend the metal is not durable enough for a 70lbs dog.

Clasp broke after less than 6 months

The leash is very nice and sturdy. We did not have problems with the clasp opening when the dog pulled, however one side of the clasp completely broke off after not even six months.

Great leash until it wasn't

Loved everything about this leash until the spring loaded clasp broke WHILE I was walking my Beagle. Fortunately he didn't notice and I was quickly able to attach the other end to his collar. I'd recommend scrapping that clasp and simply using the other one for both ends. Problem solved. NOT safe to use otherwise.

The big clip is not easy to use with winter gloves or mitts

The big clip is awkward, and my girlfriend refuses to use this leash! It is not the widest opening and with winter gloves or mitts its not a good clip.

Clasp Unlatching- Warning

Similar to a few review comments on this page the clasp is extremely unreliable and dangerous in that it can easily become detached on its own with your dog pulling. This happened to me as well with my dog (40 lb medium dog) pulling and becoming unlatched on its own and running into the street.
