Capo knew better than to mess with a good thing, which is why its new SL series relies on the same proven fit and detailing as the original Padrone collection, but with the addition of the latest in reflective fabric technology. The Padrone SL (high visibility) Jacket stands in as the ideal riding jacket, as its protective paneling was made to remain subtle during the daylight hours, yet become fully illuminated when light hits the surface. Welcome to the next generation in high-end, safety-minded riding apparel.
The SL jacket falls under what Capo calls its Gruppo Sportivo, or GS Series. Designed to "push-the-envelope" of cycling apparel, the GS series received Capo's most advanced materials and construction techniques. Basically, it checks all of the boxes on your list — support, flexibility, warmth, and also visibility. This is all due to the Padrone having been constructed from a blend of Capo's latest fabrics: Super Black and P-10 Membranes. Both of these ultra-reflective materials are what contribute to the jacket's visible properties, and they were engineered to provide the same controlled stretch, wind- and water repellency, and wicking abilities as the materials they replace. Crushed crystals have been bonded to the membranes' surfaces, which effectively reflect light when it hits the surface. This paneling is what gives the new Padrone its high level of visibility. Both of these materials' compositions favor a lightweight, softshell design over bulky, fleecy fabrics. Match that with a slim cut from hem to hem, and there's not a chance that rain or snow is getting in. Additionally, the P-10 panels are lightly perforated, which keeps air freely circulating through the jacket. This ventilation system ensures you stay comfortable in the saddle, regardless of your effort levels.
In addition to prepping for the elements, the Padrone has been designed to be highly malleable in order to complement the cycling-specific flexibility of the GS series. Capo made the Padrone with a lengthened rear hem, a multiple panel construction, and pre-shaped sleeves. The idea was to complement the body in motion, and by doing so, reducing any possibility of abrasion along the way. Altogether, it's easy to see that the Padrone looks more like a long sleeve jersey than a full-blown technical jacket.
The jacket was finished off with a tall collar and full-length front zipper, as well as three pockets along the lower rear panel. A fourth zippered pocket was added for separating your phone and media devices from the rest of your riding essentials.
The Capo Padrone SL Jacket is available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the color Black. Every Padrone is made in Italy.

At first glance, this jacket screams visibility and reflectivity all over the jacket. Even in regular light, the Super Black and P-10 Membrane combine to make this jacket pop in unlike any other jacket I have seen. Just because it isn’t highlighter yellow doesn’t mean you won’t stick out like a sore thumb while on the road. Although Capo has done a great job of making reflective materials, it has the warm, flexible, and water/wind repellant qualities allowing it to go toe to toe with the highest quality all around jackets on the market. This a breathable piece with perforation strategically placed all over helping make this nice option for high intensity efforts. I could see this jacket being worn down into the high 30’s to low 50’s. The small zip pocket on the back center pocket is water proof, so you can ride in the rain with a phone or other valuable item
Capo’s Padrone collection is form fitting and known for its high level of on the bike performance and comfort. The jacket is stretchy and mobile but still a slim fit for the race crowd. Although it is stretchy, the material feels extremely durable. At 5’10” 155 lbs, the Large was fit nice with some extra room in the upper arms and the ability to layer underneath. I could probably fit in a Medium as well. The jacket is very comfortable in the bike position. This is one of those jackets that feels a little strange walking around upright but when getting in the drops, it fits perfectly around your body.
This jacket is designed for a serious crowd who really wants to be seen on the road. It is a fine Italian made jacket loaded with high quality features, you won’t be disappointed.

- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
There's no doubt that the high-vis aspect of this jacket is astounding. Even in the sunlight, it's possible to see the effects of the technology. The fit is standard Capo - somewhere between race & club, but at 5'10" 140lbs, I found it a little boxy in the chest. However, it's completely fine given it's application, low-light riding & training.
If I were to have a gripe about this jacket, it would be that it's not the most breathable piece in my wardrobe. The points of the jacket where the high-vis fabrics are applied are tad bit heavy and propagate sweat a little more than I'd prefer. However, the venting system is quite nice, so it nearly cancels out. I'd recommend this for anyone that rides in low-light conditions in a temperature range of 45-65 degrees F.
I own the high-viz vest. And I just want to share that Capo's new high-viz technology is amazing. When the headlamps of an automobile hit the crushed crystals in Capo's high-viz material, the material practically lights up.
I often have to train and ride at night. I consider the use of one of these garments essential to my safety. In addition, of course, to proper front & rear bike lights.
