Save Your Money

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These won't save you any weight over sticking to the "free" plugs that come with bar tapes and they take more time to install properly. But hey, they look neat I guess. If you want to bling out your bike a bit then these are for you.

Wow, these are terrible!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

From the viewpoint of a product design engineer, these are terrible! They don't work at keeping your handlebar tape end tucked into the bar end... When you insert them, the o-ring wants to walk out, and if you manage to get them inserted without the o-ring coming off, they squeak and spin and don't stay put when you tighten them. From a design perspective, and aluminum screw on aluminum spider is a terrible idea! The screw should be stainless or titanium! Look at the picture, you can see the screw material being cleaved off by the anodized spider. This is a terrible design. Do not waste your money ($40!!!!) and just use the cheap plastic "shove-in ones. They are nicely machined and quite pretty though...
