    Superior customer service!!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: x-small
    • Height: 5'2"
    • Weight: 117lbs

I initially ordered from Backcountry a small on the women's expedition jacket. It was very bulky but I assumed this was the trade off for warmth. Emily Jenson from Backcountry followed up with me to see how I liked the size. She suggested she send me the x-small as well so I can could compare. She felt the x-small would fit me better. The x-small fit so much better and I am so happy with this jacket. Emily made the return so user friendly and thanks to her I received a jacket that I couldn't be more pleased with. This was my first purchase from Backcountry and because of Emily's superior customer service, I plan on making Backcountry my go-to for my winter products for my Maine Life. Emily, thank you so much for reaching out to me.

If you're a scientist in Antarctica, you need this coat.

If you live anywhere else where there are ice crystals on your windshield in the morning, you risk frostbite just from standing outside, and it takes your car your entire commute to warm up, then you also need this coat.

This coat fulfills that need for an ultra-warm coat. It's in Canada Goose's warmest category, guaranteed to be warm up to -25F. There are tons of pockets, and they double as soft heat pockets for your hands. I seriously never get cold in this coat - I've used it for several months in the cold of Utah, day and night, it always keeps me toasty warm.

Now for the fit. It's big. I mean really big. The first time I put it on, I felt just like a walking marshmallow. But then it started to grow on me. It's really boxy, but I think when styled right, it could look SO DOPE. I am 5'2" and typically wear a small or medium in coats. The small fits great. I think an x-small would be too tight around the hips when zipped. You can layer heavy sweaters underneath and still have mobility. I would not size down in this style, even though it feels like it's oversized. It's just the design and amount of down that makes it feel big, but it really is true to size.

It's an investment, but it's a piece that will last you a lifetime. No regrets here.

    Ice Princess

Hit me up if you have questions on fit and sizing.

    Ice Princess

My daughter is 6'1" and is broad shouldered as she is a swimmer....would the XL fit her? She tried on a L in a Canada goose...was not this model and was too small in shoulders and too short in the sleeves.

HI Rob. Without knowing which model she tried on, it still sound like she will need the XL in this as well. If it was a simple, thin down jacket that didn't fit, well, they fit smaller. But, if it was a big down parka, they all seem to fit about the same.

    Take no risks.

This coat is for the worst weather on the planet. If you are headed to the North or South poles or just live in a frigid city, this coat will protect you. You can wear it with minimal layers, or layer it with down jackets, if you're headed into -25 degree or colder temps.

    Take no risks.

We live at 6200 feet and have a bird's eye view of the three Teton peaks. Winter is always an expedition for us ! We have four horses and three billy goats, and have to have heavy weather gear for the rough and very cold outdoors so we can continue to play with our animals throughout the winter. This coat is THE BEST ! It is true you do not even need to wear thermals, you can put it on over a tee shirt and go right outside in sub zero weather ! Thanks Canada Goose for keeping us warm !!!

    Decent Parka, Ultimately Disappointed

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size

No doubt well made. But for the money, I expected a decent ruff. The skimpy strip of coyote on the hood was laughable. And the only way the hood would work to block wind was to have it all the way up and zipped. I live in the far north, windy country, and I depend on a decent ruff to keep me warm and act as a wind block even when not fully deployed. The photo is very misleading in that regard. No doubt the coat is warm. The material was a bit noisy/stiff, though that might soften over time. Seemed true to size. I wear a medium & the coat had enough room for layers, tho you wouldn't need much. Ultimately couldn't justify the price for the product, especially with that lame ruff. Disappointed & returned the coat.

Hope this is it for Chicago Weather

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small

I was looking for a heavy, hardcore parka to wear over my suit (lawyer) that could be used for commuting to/from court and waiting for buses. I'm 5'4 125lbs, broad shoulders, long arms, 34D chest, short waisted and straight figured from waist down...waist : 26", hips: 35". I have problems with most women's jackets b/c they cut me at the underarms and through the chest. Generally, if I go up in size, the body is too wide.

In this jacket, I tried the men's small (usually wear that size) and it was way too big; women's medium (was slight tight through the chest and just fit in the body); women's large...perfect. Women's large gave me the extra room through the shoulders, chest and arms, but not too much through the body. Although I haven't tested, the coat out yet...the fabric is extremely durable and the hood is amazing. Your head/face fit into the hood like a deep pocket so, with the fur edging on the hood you're protected from the elements blowing around. Will give you an update with I really test it out.

Update: I've used the jacket in Chicago -15F with wind chill of -45 with a cashmere turtle neck and heavy wool suit underneath. I used the hood which is great at blocking wind. I didn't feel the wind or cold at all..and in fact, got a little warm.

I tried 3 coats last winter (2014) and not one of them withstood the brutal cold that we encountered in Chicago. (AKA: Little Alaska). I have had my eye on this one and your comments sway me even more. It's just a MAJOR, MAJOR chunk of money for me. Still looking for a similar but more budget agreeable option. However, comforting to know this is here.

    Best Jacket!

I live in the Alaska Arctic and this jacket is the best! I have no problems staying warm walking around town or even riding my snow mobile out and about! The pockets are great for storing lots things to take with you and the fur ruff is wonderful!

      The Best Down Jacket Ever

There is a reason why this jacket is THE jacket issued to scientists and workers in Antarctica because it is AWESOME and warm. Once you buy one, you'll never want another down jacket again.

Great Jacket - they use it in the Arctic Stations

I have the men's Expedition jacket and this is truly the best jacket I have owned for cold climate. (-38 the other day and I was toasty)
Lots of pockets, fleece lined pockets, fur trimmed for those blowing snow days. If you want an every day jacket or a little more fashionable the Chilliwack is waist cut and not so bulky.

A word of caution. If you see a jacket on ebay or an unauthorized site it is probably fake! is an authorized dealer. I see people selling fakes all the time. Even if the picture looks legit doesn't mean you will receive a real jacket.

Just because it's on EBay does not mean it's not authentic. If an EBay seller states that an item is authentic, you can rest assured that it is. If there is no mention of it either way, then yes, I would be cautious.

"If an EBay seller states that an item is authentic, you can rest assured that it is." um.... no? There are tons of fakes sold by dishonest sellers. Just because the seller states it's authentic doesn't mean it's authentic. Just because the seller didn't say it is authentic doesn't mean it's fake either; it could be a used jacket the seller no longer wants and didn't think of putting the word authentic in the listing because they weren't aware of fakes.

The only way is to go to a brick and mortar authorized store, look at the item carefully in person, then ask the seller for extremely detailed pictures and compare it to the real item. Even then you're still taking a gamble, but just be educated on the item you're trying to buy if you want to buy it from third parties.

Do your own research if you want to spend time and effort to not pay retail price.

          Perfect christmas present

We live in northern Norway. The parka is ideal in the conditions we have here with the Polar Bears roaming the strets.

My girlfriend especially likes the big pockets in the jacket. No need for a purse.

And for the first time, no need for a scarf :-)

            Highly recomended :-)

Hi, is it this one same with the one named Canada Goose Expedition Parka in the Canada Goose website? Is it this one same with the Women's Style # 4565L in the Canada Goose website? And is it TEI5?

Hi Dan, yes - this is the same jacket listed on the Canada Goose Website as #4565L anf is temperature rating 5 (TEI5) so will keep your loved one nice and warm in up to -25 degree weather!

Let me know if I can get this ordered for you!

How many parka(Black,M) are in your shop now?
If the color I want to buy is sold, the new one won't be
            available for the moment?
And do you sell your parka in the summer?

Hey! Its looks like we have about a dozen in stock, but act fast out Canada Goose flies off the shelves here at backcountry!

Is there any place in the USA that one may go and try on the coats? The thought of buying on line and then possibly having to pay for returning/exchanging the item isn't very thrilling to me.

We do have one physical store at our warehouse in Salt Lake City, UT. We are not the exclusive retailer for Canada Goose in the US, so they most likely have other retailers in various locations where you would be able to try one on! Usually the manufacturer will list their retailers on their site.

We are able to cover the shipping cost on exchanges within the US! If you need to do that, just get in touch with us via phone/email/chat and we can get that set up for you. We do not cover return shipping if you are just returning for refund, but we do offer a flat rate $6.99 UPS return label within the US.

We don't have any of the military green on order at the moment in small but we do have several of the red coming in a small toward the end of December. I would check back with us in about a week if you don't see them on the site before that.

            Hi Yeonjoo,

We will not be getting any XXS sizes in, but the XS and S sizes should be back in stock within about a month. Just keep checking back-as soon as we have them in stock we will update the website!

My wife wears a L on Northface Nuptse 2 and is quite fit in it. I noticed this jacket runs big. Will a M size fits her??

I wear a size L in all women's North Face and Canada Goose. I'm a solid size 12, and my chest and hips wouldn't fit in my Expedition Parka if it was any smaller. Check the size chart, but I wouldn't recommend the M based on my own experience.

I'm not sure if I would need an XS or a S. I am 5'4, 120 lbs, and would prefer enough room for a warm sweater underneath. I've found conflicting size charts on different sites as to which size would be most appropriate, and Canada Goose's own size chart is somewhat vague. Any help would be much appreciated.

It can be very confusing especially when people take their personal fit experience and describe it generally as being the fit of the garment. Or when people declare an entire brand to fit a certain way, which is typically not the case. In the end a chest measurement is often the best guide for parka size. I would recommend a small in this particular parka which should give you just enough room to add some layering underneath.

This jacket is 800 fill duck down. It doesn't come in black. This jacket goes down to the bottom or your pun intended:) The fur trip is made from real coyote fur. It does have cuffs and a drawstring at the waist. Absolutely a work of art!

I would like to know if the fur trim is removable -- a zipper or something? On Canada Goose company's website they don't even recommend dry cleaning if the fur trim is not removable. Thanks, -Violet

Hi,the fur on the Expedition is not removable. If you are in a really cold climate try the Canada Goose Resolute parka with a removable fur ruff. If you are in a more temperate climate, the Trillium is really nice. Both are styled similarly to the Expedition.Good Luck!
