Mule LR 15L Backpack

If you're searching for storage that doesn't sacrifice stability on long trail rides, grab the CamelBak Mule LR 15L Backpack for a low-profile carry and easy hydration while you ride. This pack is outfitted with CamelBak's 3-Liter CRUX lumbar reservoir, offering a more stable shape and placement on the pack than a traditional reservoir. The reservoir also compresses automatically as it drains, ensuring that you won't have that last bit of water sloshing around an empty bladder as you ride. The reservoir is tucked away in a lower pocket that also houses the integrated rain cover and bike-tool organizer, giving you convenient one-stop access to a host of important items.

The "LR" in this pack stands for "Low Rider" which is an accurate title given its low-profile design and low center of gravity. Thanks to the Dual Wing hip belt you've got more of the load placed on your hips, giving you greater stability on winding uphills and easier upper body movement for the whole ride. As the name suggests, the Dual-Wing belt system uses two belts—an inner belt that supports and stabilizes, and an outer belt that both compresses the load and offers a quick and convenient storage space on the back of the pack for layers and gear.

Simple layout inside, nice looking outside

The black snap in center back, broke the first time I used it. The male part of snap fell into bag, and I had to fish it out. Its a nice looking bag, but the strap layout is overly complicated double lower strap. If younwant a pack with basically only 2 compartments, this is your bag. I on the other hand have become accustomed to much better bags from Camelback. The low mounted reservoir is a good idea, but it has an additional strap to hold the reservoir in place, kind of overly complicated again. Tool tote is included, but I dont use it, I would rather have additional compartment. Phone holder on shoulder is fantastic, I wish all Camelbacks had that feature.

Great pack for many adventures!

I have used this pack to go biking as well as hiking & camping and it fits my needs well! Sturdy construction, a good volume of hydration, and plenty of room for necessary supplies. Very happy with this system!

Perfect for running and biking

I use the pack for run commuting to work. The main compartment can pants, shirt and a pair of size 12 Nike frees. It’s tight but works. I put my lunch in the bottom compartment. My run to work is 5.5 to 6.5 miles and the rain cover is great for those Seattle rain days. I don’t feel the bounce that much and I’m usually hitting a 7:30 pace which tends to move things around at a higher pace. I love the extra straps to hold a helmet or other larger items.

Disappointed to say the least.

I bought this pack less than two months ago. I have taken it on maybe 10 rides. Two weeks ago, when I was on a MTB trip in Colorado, this pack failed on me twice. The stitching where the sternum strap attaches to the shoulder strap failed completely, and the clip that holds the bottom cover up over the zipper for the bladder/tool roll compartment just fell out completely. I had to use safety pins on my brand new Camelbak just so I could have water on my rides during the trip. I have two Camelbaks that are both around 20 years old, and have been used and abused over the years. I have never had one single problem with either of them. Now, I buy a brand new one, and it fails catastrophically within the first 10 rides. Beyond that - the fit is not very good, the organization is very lacking, and the bag is just clunky to use in general. The zipper to the bladder compartment is almost impossible to get started when trying to close it. The bag just seems very poorly thought out, and was obviously built as cheaply as possible. I gave it 2 stars because the bladder is actually pretty nice. The bag though, is horrible and I would not recommend it. Sad to see the quality of Camelbak has gone so far downhill these days.

Short Hydration Tube, Weak Buckles

I have been using CamelBak products since the 1990s. The Mule has changed over the years, it is my favorite of the CamelBaks. IMO CamelBak has started to cut corners on the durability of the materials they use. The buckle on the waist strap of my MULE broke and it seems to me the water/hydration tubes they are using are now shorter; the tube on my pack is 35 inches; for me I think a tube about 38 to 40 inches would be safer, more comfortable, and more functional. (If the tube is too long, customers can cut it to the desired size). The 35-inch tube is okay for hiking, but for mountain biking, and particularly motorcycling it is too short. I must bend my head down and to utilize it. That takes too much attention away from the trail, which can be dangerous and thus at times I choose not to hydrate because it simply takes too much time and is too dangerous. I suppose using shorter tubes saves CamelBak money, plus they can then sale longer tubes as post purchase additions; not sure this is what CamelBak is doing, but if so I guess I can understand it. They might also understand why I might now look at the competition. Below it asks "Would you recommend this product to a friend?" I clicked no, but it depends. For motorcycling - NO, at least not without getting a longer tube. For mountain biking - probably not, would like a longer tube. For hiking - probably.

Hits the mark

Just bought the pack this morning for rides in Moab. I loved the fit and 100oz reservoir. i am 6’ 1” and 250 pounds. I struggle to find straps on backpacks that are not too short. This pack has comfortable padded straps that work well with my thick upper body.

My new "go to" pack for literally everything

I absolutely love this pack! I like how it brings the weight lower and has great support throughout your whole back. I've had REI, Osprey, Northface, and other packs for biking and hiking. This definitely has taken the reign for mountain biking and hiking! I love it!
