Floaty-free

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this filter to remove some of the bigger floaties and flotsam from lake and stream water before treating with tablets. My intention was to fit it onto a Nalgene brand canteen with a wide mouth which it is a little big for. I plan on altering the filter or using a rubber band to keep it tight, but all in all I think this guy will work just fine to keep the larger stuff out of my drinking water.

Filter It Real Good

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Bought this to go with my all clear filter. As another reviewer has stated it is surprisingly bulky. Seems to get the job done of removing larger particles, the mesh seems fairly big though. I find the clearest water I can, preferably swift moving, and use this as an added measure of filtration.

Disappointing

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was a bit surprised by the apertures - really a lot bigger than I expected. I bought this as a per-filtration to remove solids before using the camelbak all clear UV purifier. Pretty disappointed - I doubt this filter could remove enough solids to render the UV 100% effective.
