    The mantra of old-school inspiration.

While some throwbacks (like 90s chrome wallet chains and bowl cuts parted down the middle) are better left alone, the old-school inspired Butora Tight Fit Mantra Climbing Shoe more akin to a revamped family heirloom than a questionable trend. Designed for trad climbing, the Mantra offers tried-and-true performance thanks to its classic construction paired with innovative and supplemental features, in turn making it ideal for sharp splitter cracks, heel-and-toe jams, offwidths, and smear-city slabs.

Constructed with a German hydrovelour split leather upper and classic lace-up construction, the Mantra molds effortlessly to the shape of your foot and the organic hemp lining wicks away moisture, ultimately keeping the microclimate of your foot dry and comfortable. Additionally, the extra rubber patches provide supplementary protection on your toes and the rubber heel rand encourages stabilization, a secure fit, and longevity of the upper. The asymmetrical last and board-lasted stiff midsole ensure day-long support while the built-in Poron memory foam protects your foot throughout unsavory toe jams. So whether you're trucking through a multi-pitch in Eldorado Canyon or getting yourself stuck between two rocks and a bat, the Mantra is built to provide day-long support and comfort.

    Crack Machine!
The construction of this shoe is top notch. I think this is the shoe I have been looking for. I chose the regular fit version. Not sure why this page calls it the "tight fit" version. I found that it was a bit too narrow for my foot. It probably would of been fine if not for the insole. The sides of my foot bulged over the insoles which irritated me. Other than that, they felt amazing and I really liked the color. I'm returning them and exchanging them for the wide fit version in hopes that the insole is less irritating. Can't wait to climb in these!

The Butora website states this for almost all of their shoes including this one "Size up a half-size from your street shoe size for a tight, aggressive fit, or full-size for a more comfortable fit."

I'm a street shoe size 10 and the size 10.5 Mantra is snug but still comfortable for long multi-pitch. I'm not sure I would be happy going a full size up. I could go a full size up and just keep the laces tight and it would still perform awesome.

Received the wide fit mantra and they are perfect. I went a half size up (10.5) from street shoe size for an aggressive fit . I've compared the mid-top wide fit version (Altura) and noticed it was wider than the wide fit mantra. Strange but I guess they are a different shoe all together. Maybe the wide fit altura seems bigger because it doesn't have the insoles that the mantra has. I ended up getting a pair of the regular fit mid-top altura in my street shoe size (10) and they are perfect.

The best micro edging crack shoe yet

This is the stiffest shoe I have ever worn.... but the advantages are unbelievable. I can stand on dime edges with barley any foot fatigue and the little pads in the toe box make it down right comfy to foot jam. I look forward to testing it out at Smith Rock and on some granite cracks this summer. The rubber is great, very sticky and hard enough to hold the edge. Moving from a soft sport shoe to this bad boy takes a couple pitches of practice but after a that it's just magic how well they feel and climb.
I am a 9.5 street shoe and I felt a size 10 was perfect. It seems weird to upsize, but it works.

I’ve been climbing in the tight fit mantras from Butora for about 9 months now. A friend turned me onto the brand and when I saw that they offered a board lasted shoe, I was sold. I quickly ripped these puppies out of their cardboard birthing chamber and took them for a spin in the granite trial by fire known as J-Tree. After a few days of shoving them in cheese grater cracks I knew I’d found my next lover. Out to the trash can went the rest of the ladies and with Sheila, my burnt orange mantras, I went riding into the desert wilds in search of piles of choss ridden crack and sketchy granite slabs. Seriously. If you like crack, you’ll love these shoes.

I'm not a big crack climber, so when a buddy invited me to Yosemite for a week, I figured I needed an alternative to my down turned bouldering shoes. The Mantras were just the ticket. I jammed to my hearts content. No pain, at all. Slab climbing in Tuolumne was a dream, the rubber is super sticky. I can't wait to take them to the creek this spring.

This shoes ability to comfortably jam into a crack allowed me to get a rest on my project that felt almost like cheating.
I wore it all day my second time out.
    Incredible edging and great rubber.
This shoe is as stiff as it gets, in the best possible way.
