    Look smart.

It doesn't take a doctor to recognize the style of the Burton Berkley Women's Jacket, but even the finely trained eyes of a PHD might not notice the two-layer DryRide Durashell fabric or the DWR coating that helps shed moisture when you're shredding the mountain or the streets. An internal pocket keeps your tunes close by, Lycra cuffs seal out drafts and snow, and zippered underarm vents keep you cool if you're hiking or spinning some springtime laps.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought this jacket and the North
Face Venture 2 jacket knowing that i would return one of them. Both are great jackets. Neither are exactly what i wanted (i was looking for something just a little heavier). In the end, I went with the Burton jacket because it was a little more comfy and flexible. This NF jacket is more waterproof which also means a little more stiff. In the end, it was a tough call. I decided on this one because i felt i could also use it running, casually, or for the actual rain. It's light weight and could easily fold into itself. I bought a small and still had plenty of room for a sweatshirt.

    Light

    • Size Bought: Medium

My sister says: "This jacket is super light-weight. I thought it was just a wind-breaker, but it's also kind of water proof. I wear it running and hiking, as well as when I'm traveling because I can add layers under it for warmth if needed. Fits true to size and the arms are just long enough. I can adjust the waist to be tighter and the sleeves to be tighter around my wrists if I wanted too. Pretty cool!"

    Light and Versatile

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

I purchased this as a light spring shell for snowboarding and it's been perfect so far. In my recent trip I got to use it both on a sunny blue sky day AND in a late season heavy snow day, and it worked great in both. The DryRide seemed to get a little overwhelmed on the heavy snow day, but it was dumping pretty good, so I don't hold that against it. It works great for layering over a sweatshirt or base layer if you want the the benefit of a water repellant layer without a lot of extra weight. It's also ideal for traveling if you're not sure what the weather will be- very easy to pack in a carry on or backpack.

    Great Jacket

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

This is a very stylish jacket that functions as a great outer shell. The price is hard to beat and it has great feature. The only negative is that the zipper handles are very tiny and are difficult to get a hold of when you have gloves on.

    Versatile piece

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

This is a stylish, lightweight, and comfortable shell. It's not meant to completely block out wind and water, but when layered properly, it can perform very solidly. I like to wear mine over a base layer and the Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer down jacket - this combo kept me comfortable snowboarding in temps in the mid-20's and winds at 10-15mph. I'm 5'3'', 110lbs, and size XS is perfect on its own or over layers.

    Unanswered Question

I'm looking for something to block wind as an outer layer while cycling in colder Texas winters (I commute via bicycle). What is the fabric on this jacket? Would it be effective enough?

Is this a good cold weather jacket if you layer well? I am around negative temperatures often.
