Superb compass

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Brunton’s top backcountry compass and worth every penny if you are serious about navigating without overly relying on GPS and battery life. It’s more complicated than simpler designs because it provides the features you want in a premium navigation instrument. I’ve been using a Suunto MC-2 for years and have been quite happy with it, but wanted another mirror compass as a backup and this Brunton TruArc 20 is everything the MC-2 is and more. Get a good book on land navigation and learn it thoroughly and then pick up a top Brunton or Suunto compass and you’ll fully appreciate everything it can do. I have and use a handheld Garmin and a Suunto wristwatch with GPS and trackback and also enjoy route planning and track recording with Gaia GPS on a dedicated iPhone, but nothing beats knowing I can never get truly lost as long as I’m carrying a 1:24,000 or 1:50,000 map of the area I’m hiking and a high quality compass like the Brunton TruArc 20.

Not an easy compass to learn with

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This guy is complex and hard to read. I do not reccomwnd this product unless you are willing to study a bit and learn.
