Cascadia 14 Trail Running Shoe
In its newest iteration the Brooks Cascadia 14 Trail Running Shoe is lighter and more streamlined than ever, helping you dart and dance through rocky and technical trails with ease. Previously designed as a sort of hybrid hiker/trail runner, the Cascadia's new weight-shedding design places it more firmly in the trail running category, so those who like to move a little more quickly on the trail will find plenty to love. A new TrailTack outsole features ample lugs and grippy rubber to keep you moving fast even when you encounter a few gnarly trail sections or a bought of rainy weather. Meanwhile, Brooks' pressure-sensitive midsole technology works to adapt to your weight, pace, and running surface to give you the perfect level of cushioning for each and every run, no matter the terrain or workout.
If you're familiar with previous versions of the Cascadia you'll recognize the Pivot Post system in the midsole. The pivots are reduced in size to save weight, but still work as a suspension system to keep your stride stable and steady when you're running on rugged and uneven surfaces. Other updates include a mesh upper with fewer overlays for a lighter weight and greater breathability, as well as the use of durable Cordura for the mudguard to ensure that your romps through the slop don't come at the cost of a new pair of socks.

I bought these as a gift for father's day. Dad was happy with how they felt, but after a few short months of light trail walking (a few miles a week), one of the shoes developed a hole in the mesh above the big toe. Needless to say, a bit disappointed in the quality.

If you liked the previous iterations of this shoe, prepare to be disappointed by the Cascadia 14s. For one, the sizing is completely different from previous models. I ordered the same size in that I’ve been wearing in 2 previous pairs of Cascadia 13s and the new ones are way too roomy. The toe box is so large that your foot slides around inside the shoe. Also, there’s way more room in the heel of the new model. I’ve been reduced to walking over technical sections of trail that I previously run because I’m so concerned about my foot moving in the shoe and slipping. Probably the most annoying problem with the fit is the resulting blisters. Prior to these shoes, I’d logged more than 500 miles this year in Cascadia 13s without a single blister. My first long run in these shoes, I got blisters on the inner part of each foot. I’ll use these shoes until they wear out but I’ll be shopping for a new trail shoe after this, and probably not from Brooks.
