Lightning Pro Double Dry 9.7mm Climbing Rope
You might work on your project at the sport crag one day and hit up that multipitch you've been eying the next. Either way, the BlueWater Lightning Pro Double Dry 9.7mm Climbing Rope is for you. It's strong and durable enough to withstand multiple falls on your project, and yet it remains very lightweight to keep you comfortable and mobile on the big walls. It's also very supple for excellent handling whether you're belaying your buddy or clipping through the crux. And BlueWater added a Double Dry treatment to prevent the rope from absorbing water after a rainy day.

Sheath frayed exceptionally fast
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I have only had this rope out on a few sport climbing trips and it is more frayed than an old climbing rope. I recently had to cut out 2 meters to get rid of a flat spot and some bad fraying. I checked all my metal gear to try and find a burr or something that would cause all the premature sheath wear but that just wasn't the case. I feel safer on my 4 year old maxim rope than this thing.

Was Hoping for More
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought
- 70m
I have climbed with this rope about 15 days and have a few initial impressions. This rope is supple, colorful, and easy to clip. Also, I love the 70 meter length (highly recommend for multi-pitch). For whatever reason, this rope knots up on me like crazy, no matter how I stack it - in or out of my rope bag. I can't help but think it is user error but my old 10.1 mm rope never did this and I haven't changed how I handle rope. Drives me crazy. It has also shown some wear a bit prematurely, nothing major but more than I would have expected. Overall, I think this rope will do the job for me, however, with how expensive it was I do kind of regret this decision and would go with a different rope in hindsight.

I couldn't decide between this rope and one from BD; so I bought both to compare side by side. This rope feels oh-so-sweet, and I imagine it would perform great at the crag. The only problem is, I wanted the Bi-Flavin color and did not receive what I ordered. Huge disappointment, since Backcountry is usually spot-on. So I am going to try this rope again when they have the Bi-Flavin color in 70M back in stock. In the meantime, FWIW: This looks and feels like a very, very high quality rope, available to you at a nice sale price!

Quality rope
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
This rope has been my go to for several years. It feels good inn the hands, is very pliable and flexible, and does not kink or twist. The bipattern is obviously awesome for rappels. Gives a very soft catch. It has also been very durable for a soft rope, and the dry treatment helps keep the dirt out. I don't lead hard routes on it anymore (simply due to it's age), but I still use it for mellow days out. Would buy again.

super

It's very easy to work with. Flakes, feeds through atc, and etc very well. Very good belay, and rappel with the Reverso. Bi is easy to read. 9.7 is great. Link pitches with 70. It's holding up well being drug across granite. Very happy with the rope. (pattern is different than pictured for Bi, though color is the same. fluorescent green works for me)

Favorite rope ever
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I'm not sure I'll ever buy a different rope when looking for a 9.6-9.8mm rope. The dry treatment wears off fairly quickly but I remember it being nice when it was still there - it did attract lots of dirt but oh well. The rope felt broken in immediately. Retains just enough stiffness to undo knots yet such a soft catch. I never find it to be kinked up. Love the bi-pattern when doing many, continuous rappels. So many good things to say!

Awesome rope
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
First rope I've ever bought and I think its great. The bicolor is wonderful for when I'm rappelling and the rope doesn't seem too heavy during multipitch climbs. One comment I'd like to add and I think this has more to do with my innexperience in ropes but I found it odd how when I was first using it how much it would slip through my grigri. Apparently this is an appealing feature for most climbers.... its a smooth rope for sure. I'll probably purchase this rope again once I retire my current one.

Superior Sport Climbing Rope
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This rope is of the highest quality. My local gym is sponsored by BlueWater and I have to say. This rope is phenomenal, feels great in the hands, and gets the job done for lead climbing.

No better rope
- Familiarity:

For me it strikes the balance between Sterling handling and Mammut durability. Very very good rope. Its light, handles well and is very durable. Ive used it for sport and multipitch trad and it works fantastically for both of those. One rope to do it all

Awesome Rope!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Great rope. Not to fat not to skinny. The first couple routes with it were rough due to a heavy wax coat of double dry treatment but after one weekend worth of climbs its proven to be a great rope. Its a super durable rope , easy to handle whether im climbing trad or sport. IT doesnt stretch to far on falls which i like. Compared to the rubber band like stretch of the Petzl Volta it feels super solid. I loved the Volta ive trashed it through hundreds of routes and horseshoe hell. BUT the lightning pro is slowly making its way to my #1 go to rope!

I'll be honest, I first decided on the Lightning Pro because it comes in hot pink. Color aside though, it's a great rope! It handles well, hasn't shown too much wear so far (better than my latest Mammut rope), and the dry coating is a nice addition. FYI, Bluewater's non bi-pattern ropes do not have middle marks. I put one on my Lightning Pro with a Sharpie "Rub-a-Dub" laundry marker (from Amazon), per Bluewater's recommendation.

Stop looking for a new dynamic rope here
Like all the comments below, I have yet to find a flaw in this rope. I did quite a bit of research for a rope I could use for alpine climbing and sport climbing alike. Couple things I was looking for - weight, dynamic stretch, and no knotting/twisting. Not only is this light, it provides a great dynamic stretch (but not too much) in order to cushion the fall. The rope, on the first use, never twisted or knotted. It did not require a break in period. Very easy to coil and slides through the belay device very smoothly. I get comments every time I take it out.

Never lose sight of this one
- Familiarity:
- I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
I love this rope! The bi-pattern is one of the best features, making it easy to know the midway point of the rope. It is light and sturdy and moves well through both an ATC and Grigri belay.

Light and fast
I just got my second Blue Water Lightning Pro 9.7mm rope. I currently have the 70 meter bi-color version. I'm a big fan. The rope is light and handles well. It makes lead belaying and knot tying a breeze. Note that there is not as much in the belay device as with a fatter rope, so you'll have to control your speed more carefully when rappelling.

Lightweight and great

I've owned this rope since 2011 (retiring after this season) and honestly, this rope in itself is amazing. It's super lightweight and the dry treatment really does shed the water well. Everyone who climbs on it remembers the green color, how easily it clips and its light feeling. I gave it four stars because for some damn reason even when it looks clean this is the dirtiest rope I've ever owned. Overall, very pleased with this rope.. Buy it....

Great in the alpine too!
Here's another photo of the Lightning Pro, this time in Lone Peak. I've climbed with this rope everyday for the past two months I've had it, and I love it for every occasion. It's still perfect for sport climbing on nearby crags or faraway climbs like Ferguson's Fuego. But, I just found out that it's an excellent choice for Lone Peak too. We took it because it was the lightest choice among the four ropes our group had. We really appreciated it when rain started drizzling down our descent. We ran back into our tent, and the rope was dry for next morning's ascent. Thanks Blue Water and your excellent Double Dry treatment.
