Zone LV Climbing Shoe

Black Diamond introduced the Zone LV climbing shoe into their line for climbers who got psyched in the entry-level Momentum and now want to take their climbing to the next level. Using the Black Diamond aggressive last, the semi-aggressive nature of the Zone helps direct power to the toe box for precision control on small edges. That, combined with a fitted heel and rubber on the the upper make all footwork more controlled—like locking in that heel- or toe-hook on an overhanging sequence.

The Zone fits nicely between the Black Diamond Shadow and Focus as an all-around climbing shoe. Where the Shadow lacks a midsole and the Focus remains stiff, the Zone offers a medium-flex midsole for moderate tension from heel-to-toe. This means enough structure for steeper projects or longer multi-pitch routes. Even though you're likely to heat up halfway through that multi, the knit upper offers breathability to keep your feet cooler than they would be in rubber or suede. The low volume nature of the Zone LV fits narrower feet for optimal performance.

Great for narrow feet

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
11.5
Height:
5' 11"
Weight:
185

I have fairly narrow feet, so finding climbing shoes that fit comfortably without having too much dead space in the toe box is usually a challenge. These shoes, however, have been great. With these shoes I have been able to get a snug but comfortable fit without dead space in the toe box. My street shoe size is 10.5 (USM) or 44-44.5 (EU) and my climbing shoes size is usually 43.5 (EU) but I ended up buying these shoes in 11.5 (USM) or 45 (EU). I have mostly used these shoes for training in the gym and some outdoor climbing. With the fit, these shoes offer a pretty good level of performance while also being comfortable enough to wear for longer periods of time. These shoes, however, are not super aggressive and aren't great for toe hooks. When I really want to push my grade (especially on more overhung routes), I use another pair of shoes. Overall, because these shoes fit comfortably on narrow feet and are less expensive than many other pairs of shoes (these shoes are usually on sale), they make great daily drivers.

Sized very small

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it
Size Bought:
9.5
Height:
5' 11"
Weight:
165

Just returned without using. Don't expect the mens sizing to be even close. The company sizing guides i found are far off. For men's i'd size up 1 to 1.5 sizes and only if you have very narrow feet. Could fit well for womens foot sizes. It seems like a bit small even for womens sizing, but my girlfriend isn't a climber.
