Why We Like The Vision Down Parka

The Vision Down Parka is Black Diamond's warmest option intended for the coldest conditions and biggest objectives, but that doesn't stop us from enjoying its warmth around town either. Scoping out lines from base camp before an oncoming storm requires you to hunker down for a few days, and this parka's light, lofty, and impressively warm 800-fill down insulation keeps you toasty as you figure out the route. The down has a HyperDry hydrophobic treatment to retain its lofty warmth in moisture-riddled environments like damp tents. Black Diamond treated the shell for added water-resistance to bead light moisture off, and then dipped the fabric in Japanese Liquid Crystal Polymer for more durability so you can take it up the climb when the storm stops.

Great parka

I have used this parka from the rainy Alaskan peninsula to the cold dry deserts of the southwest. Plain and simple it’s the best parka that I have ever owned. It’s light weight, durable, comfortable and crazy warm.

Like wearing a sleeping bag

I originally got this jacket for a mountaineering trip but unfortunately, the trip had to be canceled so I've been unable to test this jacket in extreme conditions. However, I have tested it while out on the slopes watching my daughter do the whole ski team thing. In windy and cold conditions this jacket is toasty. Super lightweight as well.

Fits large.

Good quality overall. Heavy, zipper is annoying as others have noted, and fits really large. I am 6'3" 185, and the size Large is way too big around my mid section. It is quite warm, and the overall design (adjustable hood, elastic cuffs, etc) is quite good. If I had not purchased on EV, I would return for a Medium. Seems very durable overall though. Also, it has a stuff pocket, but it is challenging to use.

Daily use

This is my daily jacket for the past 2 years. In northern MN it's cold, alot. It's March now and getting to about 20 degrees during the day and it almost feels too warm and time to drop to a lighter down jacket. Some feathers pop out randomly, otherwise an amazing jacket.

Has worked on even the coldest days

Have had this parka for about 4 months and used it quite extensively from sub-zero alpine starts to stuffing in a sea to summit 6.5L sack and leaving it in my pack all day. Has held up great and surprisingly not a single tear or hole has formed even with pretty decent abuse around pointy objects

Perfect, except for the zipper

I love this parka! It is exponentially lighter then the two decade old MEC (dear old friend) of equivalent temperature rating it replaced. It didn't get five stars because of the zipper. It doesn't function smoothly when new, and I can see problems when cold, tired, and gloved, when you really need the parka's warmth. The tear-resistant 3D printed material for a down parka is as brilliant as it is revolutionary.

Great parka overall and one of the cheaper ones compared to the "elite" parkas on the market. No rips or tears after a year and the material seems very durable. I would say I have lost a normal amount of feathers for a down parka. The jacket is definitely on the bulkier side but I've been in 5 degree Fahrenheit weather with just a t shirt underneath and its been sufficient.

Excellent warmth, good size, poor zipper

My normal size was perfect for layering over a lot of gear. The zipper though... for how expensive the parka is, that really needs to be improved.

Excellent quality

Wore this jacket in a couple sub-zero days (without factoring wind chill, so yeah, it was COLD) working up at the ski resort. Even just standing around I was plenty warm! There are two downsides I have found: 1. There seems to be an unusual amount of down filling falling out. This typically happens with new down but it seems as if there is TOO much coming out. 2. The zipper is a little tricky to zip up sometimes; ESPECIALLY while wearing thicker gloves. I've had to remove my gloves every time to get it going which isn't ideal in the cold. Still an excellent jacket!

Cool, but the model photos are misleading

I was expecting to get a VERY puffy jacket, but the jacket is medium fill at best. The photos of the jacket on the model are very very misleading and the jacket will never get as bulky as the photos suggest. I wanted a bomber, super thick belay parka, but I found this parka not quite warm enough. I don’t care about weight. For the price, I would recommend other manufacturers.
