Strong and light

These poles worked out great on a mountain terrain hunting trip. Very sturdy under heavy load and easily deployed.

Great poles for hiking

We use these for hiking and backcountry skiing. They’re a little light for skiing but still do the job and it’s nice to have just one set of poles.

Great trekking pole

These trekking poles performed very well. I have used them on numerous hikes, to include the lower half, or non-technical part of the climb of Mt. Rainier. They stowed well when and survived the abuse of being strapped to the outside of my pack for the rest of the climb. I also used them on the rim-to-rim hike of the Grand Canyon. Make sure you purchase the appropriate baskets for the hike on which you intend to use them. Also, check the friction locks before you head out on your first hike. They may need slight dialing in, or tightening with a standard Phillips screwdriver. Quality Black Diamond gear as always.

Favorite trekking pole BD makes (locking mechanism is awesome)

I have the BD z carbon poles (for long distance running), these trail trek poles (2 actually) and the alpine carbon trekking poles. Each have their ideal uses depending on sport and goals (ie; lightweight, low footprint, stowable in a small running pack, durability, reliable, etc). I personally like these trek poles over all the others because they are so much more durable and have a far superior locking mechanism (I’ve found the others to be cumbersome and often fail). I’ve snapped my carbon poles before as well (I’m a small female — 5’-2” 130# — not doing anything crazy either to warrant an entire segment snapping (which BD’s awesome customer service took care of sending a replacement segment) and was left in a risky area where I wish I had poles to help balance. That said, those were carbon, so you can’t expect the same performance as aluminum trekking poles such as these (re: my other review on the carbon poles for more info). For me, however, the biggest design element I look for in poles now is how the locking mechanism works — I love these clasp style locks vs my carbon pair that fails more often than not and is always telescoping into itself. I rarely grab the carbon poles because of this and will happily grab these alum trekking poles (I own two bow because I love them) and carry the extra few ozs of weight. *pic is of the older gen poles, but same exact style just dif colors. You can see the superiority of the clasp mechanism vs the alpine carbon poles (which are terrible imo).

Nice!

Used them to get up/down San Jacinto in all sorts of conditions ranging from scree/rock to snow/ice. Sturdy and plenty adjustable (I'm 6'3"). Especially appreciated the locking mechanism adjustment--Phillips/flat head compatible, vice some of the other more specific bolts/attachments.

Ive dragged these things all over the world. I always scoffed at people who used trekking poles for anything other than heavy backpacking. I have been eating my own words ever since i started using these poles

Durability Unmatched

I've put these poles through their paces in the backcountry of the Adirondacks. Hundreds of miles, thousands of vertical feet, all conditions: rain, ice, snow. I wouldn't trust any other trekking pole. These poles have seemingly saved my life more than once, arresting a would-be fall. This is a great product whose durability alone is worthy of 5 stars.
