    TeleKneesis Kneepad

The Black Diamond Telekneesis Kneepad lets you move objects with the power of your knees. Unlike the cheesy skateboarding kneepads many telemarkers use, the Telekneesis only covers what it has to, so it doesn't mess up the breathability of those expensive ski pants. Three plastic shells with closed cell foam backing are articulated to be minimalist when you're standing up straight, but come together for full protection of the patella, as well as giving your upper shin and lower thigh a little coverage. The Telekneesis's smooth beveled edges won't catch on ski pants and are low profile so they won't scoop snow.

    • Kneepad specifically designed for telemark skiing
    • Three plastic shells protect the patella, shin, and lower thigh
    • Cushy foam backing allows full mobility on the mountain
    • Elastic binding ensures a snug, low-profile fit

This Snowmaker expected A LOT MORE!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have been using these pads since November 15, 2018 and these knee pads have been the most over overpriced, poor fitting, and cheaply made pads I've ever used. You would be better off buying something from a home improvement store and save the extra money for some beer/other gear.

The only pro I can list is that the pads are low profile and light weight.

I have only wore my knee pads underneath my ski pants atop a moisture wicking base layer for my job as a Snowmaker: that entails riding snowmobiles, kneeling down digging out snow, hiking distances of 2000 feet or less around snow guns (hiking up and down ski hills), and doing daytime ski runs on my Alpine, non Telemark, Skis.

These pads have just not performed to my expectations. Those expectations are that the pads stay in place, remain comfortable, and are durable but these pads have failed at almost everything.

Cons: (1) the pads always bunch up to the middle knee cap guard (the articulating shins/thigh portion guards always settle towards the center of the knee cap guards) and they always slide down below the actual knee cap. The shin guard portions of the pad are the only part of the pad that stay in place and the rest of the pads end up sliding down right next to that portion, bunching up and providing no protection for my actual knee caps. (2) The upper thigh pad portion's elastic strap always 'tacos' and doesn't lie flat. That adds discomfort and feels like I have a rope strapped to my hamstrings/back of my thighs. (3) And lastly the knee cap guard is starting to delaminate from the knee pads foam layer right where they meet the articulated portion of the shin pad guards.

For the price and reputation of BD, you'd think that these pads would fit greatly and perform well but this Snowmaker/Skier is deeply disappointed in these knee pads and I feel like I have been ripped off for believing in this brand. Perhaps the Arc'teryx Knee Caps are the better performers.

    Your knees will thank you

Dropping your knee into a stump is a surefire way to ruin your day. Get yourself these knee-pads and ski off piste safely. An added benefit is the extra warmth that these provide your knees warm when skiing in cold temps. Keeping that joint nice and warm and lubricated will also help to prevent injury. Whether you are a telemark skier or not, you owe it to yourself to invest in a pair of these knee-pads.

    Great Kneepads

I bought these kneepads over 3 years ago and they are still going strong. I have used them throughout my time in the army and walked hundreds of miles with them on. I have worn them in almost every type of terrain you can including the backwoods in the US and the mountains and deserts in afghanistan. They are comfortable and lightweight. I would compare them to the arcteryx knee pads, but they are less than half the price. I would highly recommend them, especially if you have any type of prior knee problems.

      protect the knees

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Important to have for folks dropping knees in rocky terrain. Great for the Wasatch. The fit is great and I anticipate using these for other activities to protect the knees.

      Lightweight protection

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

It's not really a matter of if you're going to bang your knees up skiing... it's when. Do yourself a favor and pick a pair of these up and see if you can't minimize the damage a little bit.

These are nice and lightweight but are still substantial enough that you won't have to worry them being flimsy and not standing up to the test. The minimalistic nature of these makes it easy to articulate your knee which can be difficult with other bulkier knee pads, especially when you are trying to wear them under your ski pants.

Attachment straps are nice and long to pretty much accommodate any sized leg.

      Low Profile

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These knee pads are very comfortable. They are much lower profile too than the old construction knee pads I used to wear so they fit really nicely underneath snow pants. There is no way that my knees would survive teleskiing if it weren't for knee pads. These aren't super thick but they are definitely thick enough to protect from general bumps and impacts which is exactly what I need it for. The straps prevent them from sliding down your legs very well and they pack up really nicely in the bag that they come in. I would definitely recommend them for any skier, not just telemark.

      Smaller than you think

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought these for telemark skiing. I've never worn knee pads before but always afraid I'm gonna bust my knees up. I hate bulk or constricting things so I never bought pads. To my surprise (in a good way) these were smaller and thinner than I was expecting. They fit fine under my pants. They still offer plenty of protection though. Very happy with the purchase.

      Best safety product ever

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These BD knee pads are the best thing I've ever skied and worked with. They keep you knees warm but not hot, something that seems trivial but you will notice when you don't have them on. Most importantly, that make it possible to kneel for long periods of time with no discomfort. I'm a ski patroller and I can't imagine how I did the job before I got these and now I live in them. Recommended.

I forget that I am wearing them

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These are so comfortable I forget that I am wearing them. I have had the Arcteryx ones and they cracked at the hinge and I always knew they were on. These are a perfect design. I suggest that anyone who telemarks wear knee pads. I have heard too many horror stories of torn up knees

      Very impressed with them

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I use this kneepads for 3 seasons and I have to tell you they are great and saved my knees countless times. They very low profile so you can wear them under, yet the external shell is very hard and durable. I'm 6.4 at 210lb and they easily took and cushioned some harsh falls. Very impressed with them.

      rad pads!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These pads saved my left knee in a turn today. If you are a Telemark skiier I highly recommend these pads....I'm pretty sure that rock woulda done some serious damage had I not been wearing these...Amazing I hadn't kneeled on a rock like that before. These pads fit well and also ski well.

      good for the trees

Just a few days back was going through powder in the trees and misjudged the turn...too many trees and too tight a path. Turned late and clipped a tree at speed with my knee. Could barely walk for 2 days. With these kneepads I can take on the trees once again!

        Doesn't get any better.

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

There is no excuse- if you are a telemarker, you need these! I've skied both the Voiles and these, and can honestly say that these are the best. They are low profile and not bulky under your pants, but they still get the job done. They have saved my knees from so many slams, I literally cannot ski without them. I never have issues with them popping open, nor moving around.

Don't hesitate- pick yourself up a pair, and save them kneecaps!

        Protect Ya

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great product. After a friend had these save his knees last season on Baldy I decided to make the purchase. Super low profile, comfy, and confidence inspiring. I alpine ski, and won't be skiing without these this year.

        Tele necessity

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

An absolute must for anyone that tele's. Protects your knees from downed trees and any other objects that could end your season. Highly recommended. They do get a bit warm in the spring. Does the job well!

        Big wall gear

I bought these on a hunch that they would work for climbing El Capitan. After seven days on the wall, I can say that I have no hesitation recommending these as big wall gear. I kept them on for the entire 7 days and have only one complaint. They rotated around a bit, but I have yet to use a knee pad that did not do this to some extent. Hence the high rating. My only improvement would be to sew these into a pair of pants and I would be buying them again tomorrow.

          ideal hot weather tactical gear

I just completed a 4 day practicle rifle course in Las Vegas- temperatures 100+. I was the only shooter that left the gear on between stations becuase the gear was not heavy and did not cause sweating around the knees. Several other pads fell apart and the shooters were forced to duct tape them in place. These are great, durable pads for hot weather protection. I highly recommend these pads and will purchase more for the other shooters in the family.

Do you wear these over or under your ski pants?

JohnK said it. They aren't as comfortable when worn on the outside, but you can hardly beat the steez! They're really comfortable and low profile when worn over your base layer, and under the shell pants. I wear mine every day I ski. I hardly notice they're on, but I do when they're not. It's getting redundant, but I feel naked without my knee pro'.

Hey, new snowboarder here, was wondering if this would be good to have, as I am often falling down a lot. Is it worth it to have these or am I good without them? Remember this is snowboarding, not skiing, though I don't know if that makes a diff, I'm still new to this.

do these restrict movement in anyway

do these restrict movement in anyway

Nope--only the way you don't want to bend them (ie, backwards). I put them on first thing in the morning and don't take them off until I get home. The best, most comfortable, and did I say best knee pad I've ever worn.

These knee pads don't restrict movement at all. If you tighten the bottom strap just enough and leave the top strap just tight enough to hold them in place, after your first run you won't even notice they are there. They also keep your knees nice and warm and limber.

These would work well, they are low profile enough to fit under pants and are very comfortable.------------I would just say that at least when skiing, they chafe if you don't have long underwear under them. One warm-weather solution I used was to take old, light long undies or knee socks, cut them off, and then just pad the knee.
