Technician Approach Shoe

The Technician is Black Diamond's lightest approach shoes, and it thrives on technical terrain where you aren't too sure where the hike ends and the climb begins. Unique to all other approach shoes, the Technician features Black Diamond's 3D Wrap Construction that uses a midfoot strap to stay snug and precise as you edge and slab you're way to the best looking spot to flake a climbing rope. The EnduroKnit upper is surprisingly durable for how light and breathable it feels, and Black Diamond's new rubber ensures traction on mountainous terrain.

Sticks tricks, misses some shapes.

A win for the sticky rubber sole. I scramble with confidence. The eight lace eyelets won me over at the store. Though the thick laces require effort to dial in the fit; so be patient. The tongue is thin, so as I aimed for snug, I could feel the laces poking the top of my foot. I went with a thicker pair of socks. Size runs small. I'm normally a 5.5/6 but here the 6.5 fit best. I slid in a thin insole for better arch support. Lastly, the ankle bone dropcurve sits a tad too close to the back of the shoe. I'd ask to slide it forward a 5mm.

Solid

Wanted the closest thing in an approach shoe to the features of a climbing shoe that can handle a LOT of abrasion from asphalt shingles. The sole sticks very well, material is tough but more breathable than leather. This replaces the Salomon shoes and boots I wore out that could do one but not the other. Shoes protect toes for occasional bouldering.

Comfortable and Durable (so far)

Had these for about a month. I would give them a 5 out of 5 if they didnt squeak when i walked. I may be because of the way i am wearing them, but they look good and are comfortable to wear when on your feet all day. No traction problems, and i really like the rubber cap over the toe portion. Definitely will buy again, assuming they hold up.

Killer scrambling shoe!

Love this shoe for technical approaches and 4th/5th class scrambling! Such a well climbing approach shoe. It's also pretty comfy and looks great. They definitely run a tad small so don't size down!

Great shoe - fits small!

I can't speak to the durability of the shoe, but the comfort and look are fantastic! Looking forward to putting this thing through its paces on some long approaches. BE ADVISED: The shoe fits small. I normally wear a 10.5 or 11, had to size up to a 12. I have had this same experience with BD's line of climbing shoes.

Excellent, however slightly small.

Very good shoes that are very snug. Almost too snug. However, they are very durable and extremely, and I say EXTREMELY grippy.

Absolutely tried and true

I've put these things to the ringer, and they are still solid, sticky, and comfortable!

Solid

Good shoe, not great. Other people say they run small, I say buy them true to size and give them a few days to break them in. They’re climbing shoes, they should be on the tighter side of “being comfortable”. Great choice for 5.fun alpine climbs or scrambly approaches.

Solid shoes that are comfortable and hold up to daily city use, day hikes, and scrambling. Plus they look great.

Perfect if you get the sizing right

shoes performed in all conditions rain, sand, granite , an 8 mile approach or 2 super comfortable and stable. Sized small, size up a full size from your normal shoe. I wear an 11 in pretty much every brand and got a 12 and the fit snug.
