See through the dark and gnarly.

Moonless nights and torrential thunderstorms make for spectacular photos, but they also mean you're out in the elements when it's pitch-black and Biblically wet. See your camera settings and then some with the Black Diamond Storm Headlamp. Completely redesigned, this feather-light headlamp puts lighting level controls at your fingertips. Robust with Features; Clunky Interface

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The Good:
IP67 waterproofness
Tons of light options (wide beam, spot focus, red, blue, green - all dimmable)
Good, solid construction
It's clear a lot of thought went into it

What I didn't like:
This headlamp is heavy. It's noticeable compared to others. I really think a lot of it comes down to the extra battery (4 vs 3)
I hate the PowerTap option. While I think it's a great idea to light up the night, I found that I kept accidentally hitting the button when I was carrying it in my hand (which I'll do say running to the bathroom in the middle of the night from my tent). I accidentally light blasted my hut mates in the middle of the night because of this. Perhaps a physical button (instead of touch sensitive) would be a better option.
Final thing, there is nothing intuitive about using this headlamp. You constantly have to mentally walk through the steps to get certain features working. Make sure you read them throughly and keep them on hand for a while.

I ended up returning it for the updated Cosmo (it's the next BD lamp without the PowerTap option). It's lighter and easier to use.

work horse

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

hard to beat the storm headlamp. ive used this day in and day out from hiking to skiing to letting my kids use it as a flashlight in bed. the battery lasts, it has multiple brightness settings, and its built tough to handle every condition and perform. love this headlamp

Shine Bright Like a Diamond

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This headlamp is bright (and dimmable), has red and white (and green) lights, has a strobe function and a locking mode, has good battery life, and is waterproof. It meets all my specifications and, if anything, has more than I need. I've never wanted for more light during an alpine start.

Best bang for your buck!

I love this headlamp! very user friendly when switching between the different modes. I really like the dimming feature, it always you to dim the light to the exact brightness that you want. The newly upgraded feature to this years model of having the green and blue night vision modes is super sweet! Still giving you that night vision glow and sedulity, but will give you little more light then only having the Red night vision mode. Not the "Best" headlamp on the market. But it is for sure the "Best" in it's class at such a good price point! Highly recommended!

    The Lamp of Many Settings

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bright enough for any night time mission, and the lock feature will keep it from accidentally turning on and draining its batteries in your pack. It’s got a bunch of different settings that are fun to explore and learn how to use this thing to its full capacity. Definitely recommend.

    Too good not to buy

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Have used this several times for just day to day activities and it gives off a very impressive amount of light. I mainly bought it for a backpacking trip in Yellowstone, but found that using it is addicting. I will definitely be investing in another one considering how handy and tough it is.

    Small and bright!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

The Storm headlamp is really small and adjusts in size very easily. The light provides plenty of light and the different settings allow you to have the right range/brightness for any situation! Does require four triple A batteries.

    Great for canyons

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Got this headlamp to use in some slot canyons where water pools with frequent swimming and it has held up great! Completley waterproof, easy to use, great field of vision with lots of settings.

    Clap on

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The the waterproofing of this headlamp pays for itself the minute you find yourself retreating from a climb late at night in a rainstorm. My only reservation is the tiny gap on top of the casing that may (or may not) impact water tightness.

Great Headlamp but Suspect Build Quality

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've only had a chance to use it a couple times but the light output and adjustability is great . That being said, the tolerances around the two pieces of the headlamp body look like they were cut by hand creating a gap. Not only does it look bad but I worry about the ability to keep water out over time.

Great Headlamp but Suspect Build Quality

    Love this headlight!

My multi purpose light used from early morning dawn patrols to general camp trips. The light is powerful enough to ski comfortably in the dark or use as a backup when caught on the MTB trail at dusk. Unlike some other lights with similar lumen output this one has a wide even light distribution while other beams are a little too focused. Overall highly pleased with this purchase!
