Travel to the crag or Cabo.

There are climbing trips and there are tropical trips. Black Diamond's Stone Duffel handles both, with tuck-away padded shoulder straps and a webbing belt for easy hiking and two grab handles for the airport. A lightweight frame sheet with foam gives you a comfy ride up to crags, and the removable rope tarp protects your climbing rope from the dirty ground. A full-length center zipper opens the Stone to reveal enough room for a 80m climbing rope, a double rack, quickdraws, and climbing essentials, or a week's worth of tropical tees.

Excellent sport climbing pack

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a great pack. It's well made. It's comfortable to wear. And the built in rope tarp is really useful for lazy climbers like me who don't want to bring a separate rope bag/tarp. The only downside is that this bag is only big enough for a sport climbing bag. It definitely won't fit a trad rack with a rope. But hey your buddy can carry the rack.

Best Crag Bag Ever!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Last year my climbing gear was stolen from my car, including my crag bag. Sad right? Wrong. Having to replace all my gear led me to the Stone 42 Duffel.

Let me just start by saying that I spend a lot of time at crags and hiking to crags, and I don't like to minimize what I can bring. I can fit a 70 meter rope, water, food (snacks for days!), layers, down jacket, sport rack, first aid kit, in this bag with some room to spare.

The layout is super nice as the zipper runs top to bottom, allowing you to be able to load it fully and also easily access items when fully packed. It also comes with a tarp that can be removed from the bag so you have something to throw your rope down on without dragging the bag around the crag.

I am 5'7", 126 pounds, and my lower back is sensitive to incorrect fits in packs and harnesses. This pack has wide, comfortable, super adjustable shoulder straps for a "custom" fit. The cherry on top is the adjustable waist strap. If you're planning on doing some longer approaches, or just want to take a load off your shoulders, this is a great feature that some crag bags neglect.

This bag is great, and I wouldn't change a thing!

Your Dream Climbing bag

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

If you're like me and finally tired of stuffing your climbing gear into tiny day packs, super bulky backpacking bags or even the occasional elementary school leftover backpack, then do yourself a favor and invest in this amazing bag by Black Diamond. The Stone 42 is that perfect size to take all or your gear in an easy to use and extremely pack able bag. I currently fit a 70 Meter sterling rope, petzl harness 15-20 quick draws, 4 slings, extra carabiners, shoes, a helmet and my 40 ounce Hydroflask. This bag is made from 800 denier nylon which is some of the toughest material that you will find on any bag. An internal and removable tarp keeps your rope clean and makes packing up a breeze. Internal gear loops and small pockets on the inside are super convenient for keeping your gear organized and your valuables away from your chalk and dirt filled gear. Held off on buying a bag like this for a long time and now I dont know how I got by without it. Cant recommend enough. Don't waste your money on the run of the mill rope bags and get something that will last for life. Made at the base of the Wasatch and is perfect to use in the Wasatch. Another great BD climbing product!

Awesome Pack

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Its a great pack, can fit my 70m rope, helmet, 7 quickdraw, 2 pairs of climbing shoes and several cams. I look that It has straps on the inside that you can clip your quickdraw and cams to to keep them organized. The rope tarp is freaking REMOVABLE which is awesome !!!!!!! The pads on the backpack straps are super comfy . Did snake dike on half dome with it and loved it.

Truthfully, a great climbing pack.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I very seldom write reviews as I don't believe many products warrant everyone's opinion on them. However, this pack is different. I have been using it extensively over the last few months and it has really made life much easier. From the gym to the crag this thing is amazing. It makes packing up quick and easy. It holds a tremendous amount of gear and is holding up to the conditions I've been putting it through extremely well with no visible wear and tear. I have been able to pack a 70m rope, a full rack with doubles and some triples, two liters of water, a pair of shoes, harness, chalk bag, lunch and a few other small odds and ends with absolutely no problem. The bag also shines in the gym as it's a catch all and a great way to keep your stuff with you as you move the rope around from wall to wall. Truthfully, this is a great pack. The only drawback I could see is comfortability for a heinously long approach but I cannot say I have had any discomfort on the longest approach I took it on which was with roughly 30 lbs. of gear for just over an hour. A must buy for the climber who is sick of the Ikea bag (yes, I know it's a deal breaker) and hates throwing all of their gear in a traditional style pack which we all know is a huge pain as you have to take everything out piece by piece.

what does it mean by tuck away shoulder straps?

Hey Jon,

This means that the backpack straps and the hipbelt can be folded into the back-panel for a clean, snag-free bag.

You can see it described in this video by Black Diamond: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOOtAcJVMlI&feature=youtu.be&t=53
