Gold standard

Pretty much the best running shorts on the face of the planet. Holds a large iPhone without bouncing all over the place. Really nice seams that don’t chafe and plenty of room for gels and small foods. I regularly pack enough there with a hand water bottle to knock down 20 miles. The fabric dries quickly and doesn’t get gross with odor.

The shorts fit weird

The materials that these shorts are made of are nice. The fit leaves me scratching my head though. These shorts just don’t look right. These shorts bunch up around the man parts which could be contributed by the side elastic pockets. I’m not a fan.

My go-to PT shorts

I am 5'8" 162 and the small fits just right, as long as I don't gain weight. Quality short and the pockets come in handy for keys, ID, etc. Would not hold a phone but who the hell needs one when you are punishing yourself?

Pleasantly surprised!

BD isn't exactly known for their running gear, so I figured these were a gamble, but I like them a lot! I wouldn't say they are my go-to pair, but they're definitely in the rotation. Solid pockets, drawstring, liner. The material is a little "loud" compared to other shorts, can sound kind of crinkly. True to size. Overall-- very happy!

I like the shorts, but my only issue with them is the liner is not comfortable. It really digs into the groin.

Not what I was expecting

These have no front pockets and the back pocket is to small for my phone. Took a few weeks for me to get used to the built in underwear. I ordered a medium I’m 5’7” and 165lbs and they seem to fit fine.

Good ideas, terrible execution

These shorts arrived today and I could immediately tell something was wrong. The waistband of these shorts looked off and felt like the elasticity had already worn out. I tried them on and they look and feel like I put them on backwards, yet the drawstring is still in front so I know that I didn’t. I know that ultra low rise jeans are all the rage, but the waist of my running shorts should at least be high enough to cover my pubes. Also, the pocket configuration is different than advertised and some of the labeling is different too. I feel like I was sold a prototype or a sales rep’s sample. These can’t be what BD is selling to the public or no one would be wearing them.

GREAT running shorts, but the phone pocket is a little small

These are phenomenally made running shorts, my only qualm is that a big selling point for me was the phone pocket. Alas, I think these were designed in the days before phones got to be the size they are now - still nice to have lots of little places to store things!

Nailed it

I've been running mountain trails for 30 years and equipment keeps getting better. It's great that companies are putting useful pockets in shorts. I love Black Diamond equipment, but for skis, snow equipment, and mountain gear. They arrive on the running scene after making the best running poles, and make the best running short ever. The fabric is tough but not thick, they fit great, and they have functional pockets. They feel rugged like mountain running is.

Not made for thic bois

I'm 6'2; 220# with a decent amount of leg and hip muscle and athletic build. I ordered a size large and these shorts just completely missed the mark on sizing. I have a few other BD pants in L that fit quite well. The waistband on these shorts have almost zero elastic quality, almost like an old worn out pair of shorts. The inner brief is very very tight for a size large, like uncomfortably tight. I even tried cutting out the brief which helped a little but then the shorts loose even more integrity at the waist band. Lastly they ride up in the front very quickly with any knee to chest movements (aka uphill running) and have to constantly be moved back down. I'm not sure if the smaller sizes fit smaller frames better but the size large fits a size large human very poorly.
