Not the intended use, but comfortable!

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

So I'll just be honest, I didn't take this bag on some crazy alpines adventure or put it through the ringer in any way. I needed a bag big enough to fit all my things in for a trip, but small enough for Frontier to not charge me for a carry-on and this bag delivered. I had an 18 hour layover on this trip in Denver that I spent wandering the city and I had the pack on the entire time and i have to say it was very comfortable. Like shockingly comfortable. I am very excited to take this pack out into the field for some real usage!

Summit or Crag, Solid Pack

I've put it through the wringer

I've used this pack several times during summit bids on high glaciated peaks in the Andes. I've also used it as a crag pack, casual backpack to bring a bunch of stuff to work, and as a pack on shorter backpacking trips. It's a super versatile option for carrying one night/one summit push worth of gear, and the no-frills outside has very little to get caught on rocks/bushes. It fits a surprising amount of stuff and outside attachments for crampons/ice axe are really handy on the approach. All buckles and zippers are also glove friendly

Light and Fast

I've used it several times

I used this pack for ski touring and I found the versatility the best part. Expert skiers or snowboarders will find the light weight and many options for external and internal carry very accommodating. I loved the large top cap style opening to dig around for little things in the bag or to quickly extract larger items. The only downside I found with this pack is that it is very light weight so carrying heavy loads really transfers that weight onto the shoulder straps and hip belt. Efficient packing and properly stowed external carry items can help avoid this problem, but this pack works better when packed with more items due to the lack of frame structure throughout the pack.

Great for short climbs

I've put it through the wringer

I bought this pack for a week of hut to hut climbing in the Dolomites, but I also wanted to have another option for future trips besides my 75L Cilogear. I didn't test out attaching an axe or crampons, but I did manage to get a week's worth of gear in here without difficulty: helmet, harness, carabiners, water bottle, change of clothes, sleep clothes, sleeping bag liner, snacks, layers. I wasn't carrying the rope but it would've fit just fine with the lid. It was easy to get my stuff in and out and it carried the load well. I was able to cinch it down on days where I was leaving my things at the hut, however it did catch when I was squeezing through some cracks because I couldn't cinch it any tighter. It didn't snag, and a sudden storm came in and my things were dry inside. This bag is comfortable enough I'd take it on weekend backpacking trips.

Speed Zip 33 in the Absaroka's

I'm wary of buying a zip top pack because I'm afraid my helmet won't fit inside on the approach. If you had everything inside your pack would you be able to fit a helmet inside?

So far so great!

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Was looking for a light-weight day pack for spring/summer skiing and alpine pursuits. Used it on a recent (ski) summit of Hood, and was very impressed with the details of this pack--A-frame ski carry option, helmet carry, removable crampon straps, and ice axe storage--in an impressively lightweight package. Haven't yet used the removable bivy pad (which was one of the reasons I bought it).

Would this pack work well for canyoneering?

Is the blue loop on the back above the straps load bearing? IE can I haul the bag using that blue loop?

I've never bought a hydration system before but after purchasing this pack I definitely need one, but don't know what type or size to get.

Hey Allison, Adam, your Account Manager here! You can go with almost any hydration bladder with this pack. I would recommend checking out a Platypus bladder, Camelbak bladder or Osprey bladder. It should hold up to a 3L bladder but I will contact Black Diamond to confirm. Please give me a call on my office line at 801-204-4580.
