Speed 50L Backpack
The Black Diamond Speed 50 Backpack has plenty of space for all your gear whether you're backpacking over the weekend or climbing ice or rock for the day. Its removable hipbelt moves with your hips, so you can hike without any restrictions, and the active suspension system allows freedom of movement that you'll appreciate when you're finagling your way up vertical ascents. Black Diamond added a thermo-formed back panel for a comfortable fit and feel, and integrated a removable framesheet that doubles as a bivy pad when you're forced to spend an unexpected night high on the mountain.
The Speed has a cinching skirt beneath the removable lid to seal out snow and rain, and it can be extended to adequately fit all of your climbing gear with ease. The 210D fabric is very durable and light, and Black Diamond welded 420D abrasion overlays in critical areas so it doesn't tear up against the mountain's rocky ridges. One front and two stretch side sleeves provide room for a rain jacket or a couple of water bottles, and you also get two PickPockets and removable crampon straps to secure your ice climbing and mountaineering essentials.

I've had my eye on the Speed 50 for a number of years now. While looking for an alpine pack in the 45L range, this bad boy caught my attention given its adaptability, weight, and solid price point. After finally pulling the trigger, I'm definitely not disappointed. It's big enough for an overnight into the cold alpine but also strips down compacts super well for summit bids. While n+1 definitely applies to the backpack quiver, the Speed series is super versatile and this 50 is going to get a lot of use. I am between sizes with an 18.5 inch back length, I decided on the S/M. It admittedly sits a bit high on my hips but this is fine as I will often be using this pack with a harness. If that was not the case, I'd consider the L/XL.

Capacity and Comfort!
- I've used it several times
Only used this a few times so far, but I am a huge fan already. I am looking forward to see what else I can use this for. Lots and lots of room in this bag, and even when it is crammed full, it is still comfortable and good at distributing weight. It's also really easy to adjust and you can also make it a super basic pack if you pull of all the bells and whistles.
