    RockLock Twistlock Carabiner

Black Diamond's RockLock Twistlock Carabiner automatically locks after you set the belay for your climbing partner. That means no more looking down and noticing an unlocked gate after you told your partner to climb on. Black Diamond also designed this locker with a keylock nose for snag-free unclipping, a curved spine for a larger gate opening, and a square hinge to hold your belay device in place.
    • Black Diamond's biggest locking carabiner outfitted with a twistlock
    • Twistlock automatically locks gate and twists to unlock

    Good, but crossloads very frequently

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The edge of the gate will get caught on the belay loop. There's no record of any biner actually breaking under belay use, crossloaded or not, so this may be theoretical, but it can startle both belayer and climber if the biner suddenly rotates to the major axis loading when loaded. If you don't care about that, this is a reliable autolocker with an easy gate action. I had to lubricate it to prevent squeaking and stop it from occasionally catching at the 90% rotation point, after that it's been buttery smooth. It seems to wear well and is beefy.

    BD stuff rocks as usual

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I own many different brands of lockers and have found these to be consistently as reliable as the best of any other. Can't bring myself to use a screwgate though no matter who makes it.

    my go-to

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm a huge fan of twistlock carabiners, especially for belaying and going in direct with my PAS. I have 3 of these now, and they're my go-to every time. The two-stage locking mechanism is really intuitive (I personally hate three-stage lockers with a passion). If you're not opposed to a twistlock, this is the perfect one to get multiples of.

Easy To Cross Load When Belaying

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great all around auto locking carabiner; however, it has a tendency to move around and cross load when belaying with an ATC.

    Great Biner!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Love the twistlock feature. Very easy to use once you get used to it. I use this indoors and outdoors as my primary locking biner for belay. I always double check that it is locked, but haven't had an instance where it wasn't yet. Another great BD product!

Good. Still not exactly what I need

The item is well constructed and strong. It has a "twist lock" which is good for better security.
However the item is rather big and bulky for what I intended to use it for.
I just wanted the gate opening to be 1" so that I can put it on my bike handlebar to hang a whistle and a small wrench .You'd be surprised how hard it is to find a carabiner that has a gate opening of 1 inch. They are either too big or too small, even those "S-shaped" carabiners. They are expensive too. This one was of a good price considering from other stores. However though I think this is a well made item, I will probably return it. I need something of a more conpact design and I feel that the price I paid for it, as comparatively affordable as it was, is too much for the simpler design that I need.

      Love the TwistLock

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

BD nails it again with this sleek, easy to use TwistLock carabiner. If you're debating between a screwgate and a twistlock gate, I strongly suggest the twistlock. It's so easy and is really safe - it takes a bit of effort to actually twist it, so it's not something that you can mess up while belaying (those were my beginning climbing partners initial concerns).

      I highly recommend.

      Great biner!

The Black Diamond Rocklock Twistlock automatically locks which provides great piece of mind when belaying or rappelling. As with other BD climbing products, it's solid and ready for daily (ab)use.

        Favorite Belay / Rap Biner

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I swear by the RockLock Twistlock biners for belaying and rappelling. They're a great size, and very intuitive to unlock and open with one hand (after a little practice).

        Black Diamond Rocklock Twistlock

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The automatic locking system is a pretty sweet feature, helps get in and out of your carabiner that much easier. You should always check to make sure its locked but for me it provides much more comfort knowing that it will automatically lock. I use this product indoors and outdoors a minimum of 3 times a week and I love it! I highly recommend.

        My favorite twistlock 'biner.

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I don't even mess around with other brands or models of twistlock carabiners anymore. The locking feature on this is silky smooth and substantial, and it's wonderful to have (mostly*) clip-and-go security when you use these for personal anchor systems and belay devices (*I say "mostly" because you ought to always check and double check that your carabiners are locked when belaying, rappelling, or setting up a personal anchor system, but the immediate locking feature of the twistlock offers some peace of mind!).
