QuickDraw Probe Tour 280
The QuickDraw Probe Tour 280 is probably the most versatile probe in Black Diamond's lineup, with an unbeatable balance of weight, performance, durability, and packability. The tough aluminum shaft deploys from the stuff sack with one pull of the QuickDraw system, the alloy tip is wider than the probe shaft for increased sensitivity, and the high-vis markings make snow study a breeze.
- Not too long nor too short. This Black Diamond probe fits just right

Depth marking numbers wore off : (
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
My Black Diamond Quickdraw Tour 280 Probe's depth markings wore off after just 3 years even though I've only put the probe in the snow like 6 times total and taken it (in its soft case, in my backpack's avy pocket) on ~15 ski tours total. I would expect longer life from this product. Maybe I got a bad batch with poor adhesion of the numbering paint? Otherwise it's a good probe, though I've also experienced some cracking of the internal plastic spacers like one of the other reviewers here noted. Fortunately the cracked spacer hasn't deformed yet, though, so I can still functionally use the probe.

So Far So Good
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I've never had to use it fortunately, but it works well in practice. It's long, super easy to deploy.

Not Reliable
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
This probe has a good chance of failing when you really need it... I've only used this probe a couple times, and it broke! The plastic pieces inbetween the probe sections will like break - this makes it impossible for the probe sections to piece together. You can see the broken plastic piece in the photo. I talked to the black diamond warranty department. They stated this was not covered in their warranty, and just offered me a 40% off coupon to buy another one. Would not recommend if you actually plan on using this to rescue someone.

Does what you need.
- Familiarity:
- I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
Assembles fast, is solid and has solid depth markings. Has what you need in a probe in the event of a slide. Highly recommend.

Great Probe
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
This probe is incredibly easy to deploy. The handle is big and it only takes a second to get it fully extended. The 280cm is a great length for most areas and the marking are super easy to read. It's a good weight and feels durable.

A great tool for avalanche set
- Familiarity:

Black Diamond 280 avalanche probe. Easy to extend with helpful measurement markers. It felt strong and did well in the snow. A great tool for avalanche set.

Packs Small, Love the QuickDraw Feature
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Luckily I haven't had to use my probe in any real world situations yet but I've tested it out a few times and it seems great. Reasonably light.

An under appreciated feature
If you're one for recording pit results, you'll find the bold numbering quite nice. It may seem irrelevant or overlooked for its other obvious features, but you'll find after regular use of lesser probes for a few seasons that the numbering paint will wear off much faster than that of BD's probes. Always appreciated!

Favorite Probe!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Really love this probe for a variety of reasons. Most important, the 280cm length is great. It's short enough to be quick and handy to deploy and use, however it's long enough that you won't run into an "oh shit" moment with a probe that's too short. The deploy handle is great, the reinforced loop makes it easy to pull and use with gloves, mittens, or bare hands. The metal-on-metal piano lock mechanism inspire confidence and is easy to manipulate with gloves on. Personally this is the probe I'd go with. It has a great mix of durability, design, and value. I'd stick with the aluminum version as carbon-fiber tends to shatter when broken, whereas aluminum will generally bend first. A bent/broken aluminum pole is much easier to repair in the field than a shattered carbon one. Ben brabinowitz@backcountry.com 801-746-7564

I'm pretty disappointed in this - are other probes actually worse?
