    Balla on a budget.

    The Positron Quickpack consists of Black Diamond's best-valued draw for climbers on a budget. Despite the low price tag, these draws are fully-featured with keylock noses for snag-free cleaning, and the rope-clipping biners have bent gates for easier clipping. Black Diamond added StraitJackets to stabilize the rope-clipping biners for an even more convenient clipping experience.

    Use 'em and Abuse 'em

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    Bought a 6-pack of these babies for a spring break trip down to the Red and they held up awesome. The lower bent gate biner makes for effortless clips especially when pumped out on steep, overhung routes while the beefy polyester dogbone offers a great grip when hangdogging. Just from my week down there, they've caught some gnarly 2-bolt whippers and only came out with some minor scuffs. Not to mention, they're lightweight enough where I'd bring them on trad climbs to extend placements. The keylock nose is an added bonus when clipping into nuts and cams.

    I'd totally pick up another 6 pack next time they're on sale. These draws are going to be on my harness for quite a while.

    Easy to Clip & Hold Up Well

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

    I gave these to my girlfriend and this is what she had to say about them: "I love these draws! They are light weight and very easy to clip! They have taken a fall or two and they have held up well and rope drag is minimal. I would recommend these draws."

    Easy to Clip & Hold Up Well

    Just my experience...

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

    I bought a pack of these as my first piece of my rack. After just a few outings and a few 5.8 and 5.9 leads these draws seemed to be holding up. I keep all my draws on a nylon runner and I keep my equipment hung on a peg in my closet. Anyway, racking up below a climb on maybe the third time they were taken out, I picked one of these puppies up only to find that one of the black carabiners gate was freely swinging back and forth. Then I noticed there in the dirt the spring that is supposed to keep the gate of this draw secure and attached to the wall. I swear by their wire gate rack pack of draws,HOWEVER, I returned these positrons ASAP.

    Solid Quickdraw

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

    These quickdraws are solid. Good construction with gates that are easy to place while lead climbing. The length is a little bit on the short side for certain applications. Otherwise, no complaints.

    Nice Quickdraw, but False Advertising

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

    There are very few reviews floating around the internet about these draws, so I figured I'd toss in my two cents!

    The BD is a surprisingly light and attractive quickdraw sold at a reasonable price. Attractive colored carabiners with a matching and might I add bomber sling joining the two carabiners make this an attractive choice for climbers in a budget. My biggest beef with this product is the description of sizing which I consulted BD customer service on and received a less than adequate response.

    I ordered the 18 cm quickdraw pack, but what I got instead was 6 quickdraws with 15 cm slings instead (see picture attached to post for metric confirmation, and comparison to an actual 12 cm quickdraw). I emailed BD support and received a disappointing response stating that there is typically a small variation in sling length, and that they sell quickdraws based on a quickdraw length - not by sling length. Which is categorically false, as that is how they sell slings on their website (See: http://blackdiamondequipment.com/en_US/climbing-dogbones-runners).

    Enough grumpy rambling, it really seems like a great draw:

    * Keylocking nose

    * Surprisingly light

    * Updated beefier dogbone compared to the model prior

    * Bent gate ensures an easy and consistent clipping experience

    * You guessed it, dogbone length. As a shorter climber hoping to avoid the hassle of reaching to clip by having longer draws this was a bit of a sore spot for me.

    * Finish comes off easily under light use.

    * Could be a bit lighter (But for the money, not too bad)

    All in all, if I could do it again I would purchase a pack of Petzl Djinn Axess quickdraws instead.

    Great Quickdraw Deal

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    I have nothing bad to say about my positron quickdraw. They have a bent gate on the rope side for easy rope clipping and no catch noses so you don't need to worry about it getting hung up on bolts or your rope. If you'd like a similar but more lightweight option check out the Black Diamond Posiwire Quickdraw.

    Quality Product

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    This is a good, cost effective option for a closed gate carabiner quickdraw. I have used both these and the posiwire quickdraws. If weight is a concern, go with a wiregate, but if price is more of a factor, you can’t really go wrong with the positron draws. These draws have a straight gate and curved gate side, which is great for easily clipping rope through the curved gate of the draw.
