Why We Like The Mission Tent

Industry-leading innovations make the Mission Tent a go-to for all-season adventurers that go above and beyond. This bomber tent is designed to excel in less-than-ideal weather, and the tough materials and inventive architecture ensure we're safe and secure even in winter storms. Its dome and tunnel pole construction stands up to harsh winds, and the durable pre-attached fly keeps unwanted moisture out. In poor weather, we're content to stay inside where it's safe, thanks to the tent's spacious design and generous storage space.

Almost a great tent

I spent 45 nights over 4 expeditions on the Alsek River in this tent, and it has missed the mark in a couple of key spots. It is very spacious, I would say it is the size of a typical 4 person tent. It keeps the glacial dust out, and it is quieter than other tents when the wind really picks up. If the body is left in, it sets up in the wind and rain nicely. The 2 big issues I have with this tent: -Zippers are too small to deal with the glacial flour, dust, and sand. It only took a little bit of frost to cause issues. They frequently jammed up, and they will not last long. -The ground sheet is terrible. Taking the tent down in the rain is pretty slick. The way the body comes out makes it easy to keep the body dry in a downpour when you are taking the tent down. But putting it up with the body removed, pray for now wind, and no rain. If the ground sheet used the same clips as the body to clip into the fly at the base of the poles (reversed sex so they don’t get mix up) rather than the stupid elastics, it would be a total game changer. If I have to use this tent for another season, I will see them in myself to avoid the hassles I had this summer. If they make those 2 changes for next year, awesome tent, and your should buy. If they don’t, buy a Trango

Strong and comfortable

Very good tent for hard conditions and comfortable for 3 people. Good vestibule in both sides. Easy to set up one difficult weather but difficult tu spread the part to carry it between the crew

Spacious and Warm

Super spacious tent. Used as a luxury 2 person. We were confident we could fit 4 in the even of a tent malfunction in our party. Could be lighter

Mission 3 P tent

Absolutely the best tent I have ever owned. Easy to assemble. Spacious and sturdy. A wee weighty for a trail hike, but otherwise awesome.

What a great tent

Bought this tent when there were ZERO reviews online, so it was a leap of faith. Great decision. It's 10 lb so not an ultralight. But it's a great design, strong material, and incredibly easy to setup. Very happy with the purchase.

My new favorite tent

The medium sized 3P is an excellent compromise size that can be used as a 2 person palace or a cramped 4 person home. I love that the fly is attached to the tent body so when I take it out in a downpour the interior of the tent stays dry. You stake the four corners of the rectangular floor, then assemble the poles into the structural frame before you raise the tent to attach. All these features make pitching a Mission tent in high winds and torrential rains a pleasure… at least in comparison to other tents. Love all the interior attachment points… I think I counted around 20. I’ve always had one vestibule with previous tents but having two equally sized vestibules and doors made getting in and out of the tent much easier and made it easy to keep equipment off the tent floor. This is listed as a 4 season tent but this tent would be tough to use in hot weather. The only ventilation to the tent body is from bug netting on the top 1/3 of each door (which I don’t recall seeing in descriptions or photos). And of course the fly extends basically to the ground. This is a no-compromise cool or cold weather tent, more so than previous 4 season tents I’ve used which had full netting doors. You’ll need a different tent for summer, but the lack of compromise make it extra nice in cool or cold weather. I wasn’t excited about the monotone blue color of the fly but it’s nicer in person than the photos. I will probably replace the black guy lines with bright orange line which will complement the blue nicely and make them easier to see. The tent body is white which is nice, but everything and everyone inside is going to look blue anyway. I like my yellow tents, but mostly I don’t spend a lot of time in the tent during the day. If I had to be in a tent all day as part of a base camp I suppose blue would be easier to live with. Finally, looking at the BD videos on the tent I was a bit concerned about how the fabric was flapping in the light winds. I have a Fitzroy single wall which has drum tight walls, and other 4 season tents I’ve use are a lot more taught than the videos of the Mission tents. In person though it’s clearly not a problem. There are a lot of guy lines. It’s never going to be like the single wall Fitzroy, but you can make it much better than the videos. I really like the Fitzroy and an old VE-25 I used to have, but this Mission 3P is my new favorite tent for cool or cold weather.
