Versatile innovation for the year-round alpinists.

The Mercury Mitten is Black Diamond's most versatile and popular year-round mitt for skiers, climbers, and alpinists. Remove the liner for summer expeditions, and keep the two together for winter climbs. A BDry insert gives this mitten exceptional waterproof protection, and the removable liner's innovative PrimaLoft Gold synthetic insulation feels and compresses like down yet protects your hand with long-lasting water-resistance.

Pertex Shield also assists with waterproofing as well as providing a four-way stretch for freedom of movement. The Mercury also features a goat leather palm for a good grip, Kevlar stitching for durable reinforcement, and a split finger design that give the removable liner more dexterity.

    Soooo Warm

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Always had cold hands when resort skiing, but these are far better than anything else I've tried. Got turned onto them from the OutdoorGearLab review &, as always, they nailed it. I love these mitts, & they're awesome quality, Expect them to last a long time. Sure they're bulky, but that's why they work ... better value than the Hestra Heli's too, even if they're not quite as stylish - tho the leather makes them pretty cool I think. Great gear, buy some.

    Warm gloves

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have cold hands. I have trouble finding gloves that will keep my fingers warm in very cold conditions. Putting my hands in these gloves are like putting on a hand warmer. These are the warmest gloves I've ever owned. They also have held up well so far. Seem well constructed. Have not had any issues with the waterproofing. Only downside is that they are big and clumsy and difficult to store when not wearing them. I've used them along with another set of light gloves or glove liners for tasks requiring dexterity.

    These work

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Needed a good pair for winter mountaineering and these work. I was climbing in the Adirondacks last week on one of the cold days this year, near summit it was minus 14 with wind chills at minus 44 degrees these gloves kept my fingers warm and at no time even when not moving did my fingers go cold or numb. If you need sub-zero warmth these are for you.

    Great For Cold-Sensitive Hands

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

After years of being unhappy in winter because of damaged rock climber fingers that get cold easily, I finally bought a few quality pairs of gloves this year. I got these mitts for the coldest weather as the consensus seemed to be that they're pretty warm. They certainly are and the several times I've needed them for skiing or otherwise they've really saved the day (and my hands). I think there are probably warmer options for when it's REALLY cold, but as long as I'm not just sitting around, these work pretty well even in the low single digits. My hands have stayed warm in them while skiing in wind chill that was well below 0° F, probably because of the nice Pertex shell material. I have, however, been cold in them in the low single digits whilst being relatively inactive; there are limits to their insulating ability. They resist water very effectively and the liners are really, really comfortable, making the mitts a joy to wear. The split-finger design of the liner seemed strange at first, but I really only use it when I want a tiny bit more dexterity (which is otherwise poor, obviously) and there's plenty of room to skip the separate finger and keep all four together in the other liner compartment. Gloves might be a better choice for certain activities, but with my (cold) hands these mitts will continue to have an important place in the gear lineup during wintertime.

    Has it all.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I needed a really warm durable mitt for cold weather skiing, and looked at dozens of alternatives and comments online. Purchased this one and started using it last week in temperatures around 0 degrees F. Very pleased with every aspect - its warmth, moisture resistance, design, construction, and materials. A great all round product that I expect will serve me well.

    Really Good

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My hands get very cold, very easily. So, I may not be the best person to be reviewing gloves and mittens. Having said that, these are the best I've tried. My hands still get cold in these on days with wind chills below about 10 degrees. Obviously, my wish is that my hands would never get cold, but like I said, my blood doesn't flow well. This is why I'm rating them as 4 stars and not 5.

I have no complaints about the product. Quality is simply outstanding. Whomever designed and constructed these clearly gives a damn. Highest recommendation.

By the way, I was unclear what "split finger design" meant. The liner is a three finger design with the index finger having its own finger "compartment". Bear in mind that the index finger compartment is optional as the adjacent larger compartment was deliberately designed to house all four fingers should you choose to use the mitten that way.

    I love gold

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Primaloft gold is amazing. I was out the other day when it was 6 degrees out and my hands were completely numb in about 2 minutes just wearing my liners from other gloves. I popped the Mercury Mittens on and after dethawing my hands, they were sweating as we continued up the skin track. These aren't the greatest mittens for dexterity, but what they lack in that department, they make up for in being incredibly warm. Removing the shell and just wearing the liners does help with dexterity as well. Really happy with them so far!

If you’re looking into ski or snowboard gear and are looking for a recommendation, give me a call or shoot me an email and I’d be happy to help you out with some recommendations.

I’m typically in the office Monday-Friday and would love to talk, but if you call and I’m not in, make sure to leave the best number to call you back at or your email address in the voicemail.

    Damn Global Warming

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I had a winter climb planned for March in North East, but the climate has decided that March should no longer be cold enough to require gloves.

Fit and finish is fantastic. I am sure they will live up to their reputation

    You'll never need another....

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have poor circulation when I comes to my fingers and my toes in the cold weather seasons. I have dealt with tears while thawing out. I was in search of the warmest gloves on the market and after reading plenty of reviews I went for it with the Mercury Mitten. I can say with confidence my fingers will never be cold again. The fit is spot on. Great gloves that I would def recommend.

    Finally...my hands are warm!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have tried many brands of gloves before finally succumbing and going the "lobster claw" route. But I am glad I did. My hands were the only part of my body that I could not keep warm until now. These mitts have come through and I highly recommended them!
